Cooperstown is named for James Fenimore Cooper and is allegedly the birthplace of baseball - an assertion that has been disputed but the legend persists. The village is situated at the south end of Glimmerglass Lake, which is the source of the Suquehanna River. It is a beautiful area to enjoy the outdoors especially in the fall! For those who aren't familiar with the Upstate New York climate you should be prepared for temperatures in the range of 25-80 degrees, maybe even in the same day.
Cooperstown in a great place for a weekend getaway. Some of the highly recommended places to visit include the Fenimore House Museum (excellent Native American section), the Farmer's Museum, and The National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum.
