The enchanting and historic Canfield Casino, built in 1870, is situated in Congress Park, in downtown Saratoga Springs, the Canfield Casino is close to everything, making it the perfect location for our guests.

The high rollers came out after dark and gathered around the gaming tables upstairs in the Canfield Casino in Congress Park. Even for a nouveau riche 19th-century tycoon, there was nothing more thrilling than to let a bet of $125,000 (about $2 million in today's dollars) ride on a single turn of a card. Between the horses and the casino, Saratoga was a place where gambling could be mainlined around the clock. Gambling was ended by reformers in 1907.

Although gambling had ended in 1907, there were still illegal clubs throughout the city. The illegal gambling took interest in bootleggers who were running illicit alcohol from Canada to and through Saratoga Springs. Arnold Rothstein was one of the first and most infamous of the gangsters to establish in Saratoga Springs. Bugsy Siegel and Meyer Lansky also had interests in Saratoga Springs illegal Casinos. Bing Crosby, Mitzie Green and Sophie Tucker were just a few of the high end entertainers these clubs featured.
