JD had his sights set on relocating to San Diego for years before COVID and remote-friendly work made it possible for him to make the move. Meanwhile, just a year before, Amy had made the decision to move from the Bay Area to San Diego to give life in Southern California a try. As transplants looking for connection, both took a chance on a dating app (thanks, Hinge!) to see if love could be found. Both went on their fair share of interesting dates until one day... As soon as Amy took a look at JD's profile and saw he was voted best dancer in Middle School AND High School, she knew she had to shoot her shot. She sent him a message, and from there, the easy flowing online conversation turned into a first date. The two decided to meet at local favorite, Parc &amp; Rec in Normal Heights, for a cocktail. Amy was running a few minutes late, so JD decided to make a quick pitstop at the Mexican restaurant next door for a taco to ease the first-date nerves. Once the two connected at the bar, the online chat easily translated into a comfortable real-life conversation. They were drawn to each others sense of humor, taste in travel, and stories of adventures past. Even silly ones about JD's straw fedora days - ask him about it. Both Amy and JD parted excited and optimistic about their second date. But that had to wait 3 weeks as Amy and JD were living their best lives and jumping around CA. Fortunately, good things come to those who wait, and to both's relief but to no ones surprise, the second date was just as fun, easy, and engaging. The two dated for a couple of months before calling it official in July of 2022, and with that, the adventure began. ... Fast forward, to June of 2024, on a gloomy Friday afternoon, JD had a surprise planned for Amy. The two made their way to one of their favorite spots, Sunset Cliffs, to catch a view. With a little help from some friends to set the scene, JD had a picnic and photographer in hiding waiting for them. JD led Amy to the bluff to watch the waves when he took a step back. Amy, realizing what was happening, took a moment to watch the ocean and take a deep breath before turning around. From JD's perspective, Amy's moment felt like an eternity- When is she finally going to turn around? Man, my knee is really starting to hurt. All in good time, Amy turned around to see him on one knee, and he popped the question. It was the easiest Yes! Amy has ever said, and with that the two were engaged! ... We are so excited to share more of our story with you by having you be a part of it. Whether you are coming from near or far, we look forward to celebrating our special day with each and every one of you.
