Amy and Andrew’s love story began in a place held near and dear to every Bridgewater State Bear’s heart, Barrett’s Ale House. Andrew, who had already graduated, was visiting some friends for the weekend when they all headed out to the infamous watering hole. Shortly after stepping foot in the bar, Andrew couldn’t help but notice Amy, a junior communications major who was absolutely stunning.
Without wasting a moment Andrew noticed Amy walk up to the bar. He immediately made his way over to the bar shaking with self-doubt, introduced himself, and offered to buy her a drink. Amy agreed, but only after learning Andrew was, in her words, “A North Shore Boy” and made the connection between their hometowns of Woburn, MA and Stoneham, MA. They exchanged phone numbers and the night could not have been going anymore smoothly!
Sadly, like many times before, Andrew’s distractibility got the best of him when an old friend made his way over and interrupted. The two gentlemen began laughing and reminiscing about the good old days. This left Amy to close the tab on the drinks promised by Andrew. A slew of apologizes ensued, but Amy would not allow Andrew to pay for the two light lagers he had missed the tab on. Andrew’s persistence failed and they went their separate ways for the night.
Yet, when all seemed lost, in a similar fashion to Tom Brady in a 28-3 Super Bowl, Andrew had no quit in him and launched a Snapchat to Amy’s inbox, like a hail mary flying to the end zone with seconds left on the clock.
Andrew did not receive a response for FOURTEEN DAYS. Unbelievably on day fifteen, Andrew felt his phone vibrate. Against all odds he had received a response from Amy. He immediately wrote back and coordinated a date that he promised himself he would not screw up. Andrew hit the road and thought hard back to that night, what were some of the things Amy mentioned?, Andrew thought to himself. He recalled her sharing her love for Twix and bread and butter wine. As Andrew got off the highway he pulled into a store parking lot. He quickly found flowers, the sought after wine, and began searching for the final gesture that would show his thoughtfulness. Twix.
Alas, each day comes with its set of challenges, and that day's challenge had come. There were two types of Twix at the checkout counter. “Left Twix'' and “Right Twix”. The cashier stared confused as Andrew pondered over his two options like Will Hunting in front of an MIT black board. After a long and drawn out process Andrew decided to splurge and purchase both the left and right Twix. Andrew arrived to pick up Amy, fashionably late after the Twix ordeal. They laughed together and Amy explained that sadly, there is no difference between left and right Twix.
Fast forward a month or two later to the 4th of July. Where Amy, a real go-getter who has always known what she wants, asked Andrew to be her boyfriend in front of all of her college roommates. Andrew said yes, and after years of dating and happiness Andrew took Amy to Mount Washington resort where Amy refused to hike. As the two rode further into the mountains, Amy began commenting on how beautiful the landscape was and what a shame it would be to not summit one of the mountains she had refused to hike minutes earlier. Little did Amy know Andrew had a ring in his pocket and a ski lift ride planned to the top of the mountain with a photographer waiting at the top to capture the moment. Andrew proposed and the rest is history.
Andrew and Amy have overcome the challenges of unpaid light lagers, unread snapchats, and left and right Twix. After challenge comes triumph. Which has brought us to an upcoming moment of celebration, and we are so excited to celebrate our big day with all of you!
