In late September 2019, Andie and Mackenzie, on the verge of giving up on dating apps, decided to give it one last shot. Andie was drawn to Mackenzie's profile first because he possessed all the qualities she was seeking, most notably - his towering height. Mackenzie initiated conversation with, "Hey, how are you doing?" - what a romantic.
For their first date on October 5th, Mackenzie proposed apple picking at Catoctin Orchard, a place that would later become a cherished anniversary destination. Since Mackenzie had a car, he graciously drove the hour and a half to the orchard, providing them ample time to get to know each other during the ride. Being that Andie was venturing out with a man she had never met before, Andie's cousin and bridesman, Will, "coincidentally" went apple picking at Catoctin that same day. As their date was coming to an end, Andie spotted Will and gave him a subtle thumbs up, the date had gone great.
Their relationship continued to flourish, and soon they embarked on a getaway to Culpeper, Virginia, staying in a charming cabin. This trip had two significant outcomes. First, it instilled in them a love for escaping to small towns outside of D.C. for quality couple time. Second, on their way back, they playfully visited apartments, which ultimately led to them seriously considering moving in together.
Unbeknownst to them, they would soon be more “together” than they realized, moving in together in February 2020. Over the next few years, they navigated the pandemic as a couple, deepening their love for one another. They embarked on trips, relocated three more times, and learned how to truly be each other's rock.
During this time, they also developed a shared passion for running, and it became a routine for them to embark on long runs together on Fridays or Saturdays. It was during one of these runs that Mackenzie got the inspiration for his proposal.
On July 7, 2023, as they went for what Andie believed was a regular run, they passed by the Marine Corps Memorial, which offered a stunning view of the Potomac River, the Lincoln Memorial, the Washington Monument, and the Capitol. Mackenzie had arranged for a surprise morning picnic in a spot adorned with flower beds. As they approached the area, Mackenzie pretended to have back pain, providing the perfect opportunity to drop down on one knee and ask Andie to marry him.
And that brings us to where we are today. Andie and Mackenzie are overjoyed and thrilled to share their special day with you!
