In the summer of 2017, Andre made the decision to participate in the work and travel program one last time. His destination was Cedar Point Amusement Park, a place he had visited three times before. This time, however, he persuaded his friends to join him for their first experience there.

Little did he know, this final trip would mark the beginning of a life-changing journey for both Andre and Jhodi.

One evening after work, Kurt, Andre’s roommate and Jhodi’s classmate, invited her and her friends over to their room. The moment Jhodi walked in, she immediately caught Andre’s attention. Trying to play it cool, Andre waited until after they left to ask Kurt who she was and if she had a boyfriend. Kurt didn’t know, leaving Andre to find out for himself.

When the girls returned to the room, Andre seized the opportunity to strike up a conversation with Jhodi, eventually learning that she had a boyfriend. Despite this, they became good friends over the summer. Back in Jamaica, they stayed in touch and met up a few times at school.

The following year, Andre graduated, and it wasn’t until 2019 that they saw each other again. Andre invited Jhodi to a movie, and she agreed. They watched the new Godzilla movie, which turned out to be a less-than-ideal choice as Jhodi wasn’t very interested in the film. Afterward, they took a taxi to a restaurant in Liguanea for a meal, and later went to Half Way Tree where her brother picked her up. Andre took a taxi home.

Their paths didn’t cross again until December 2020. One morning, Andre walked into work and saw Jhodi sitting in the lobby, waiting to start her first day on the job. He didn’t recognize her at first because she was wearing a mask due to the pandemic. That evening, she came upstairs to meet her cousin, who happened to sit across the aisle from Andre. She stopped at his desk to say hi, and that’s when Andre realized who she was. He messaged her that evening, sparking a conversation that would lead to much more.

As time went on, Andre knew Jhodi was the one he wanted to spend his life with. He began planning his proposal. With Christmas 2023 approaching, and her family planning a Pixie gift exchange on Christmas Day, Andre decided it was the perfect moment to propose in front of her loved ones. He bought a ring and hid it under the passenger seat of the car where Jhodi usually sat. It stayed there for a few weeks without her knowing. On the day of the gift exchange, Andre waited until all the gifts were given before handing Jhodi her Pixie gift, with the ring as the surprise.

Jhodi was indeed very surprised and joyfully said yes, shedding tears of happiness.

Now, we look forward to creating countless more memories and stories of joy, embarking on our journey towards a happily ever after.
