Andrea and Ben met in the spring before the end of the world. They had coffee, even as windows were shuttered, closed indefinitely signs hung, and highway rivers stymied.

They walked around together in the sun and in the rain, went on dates (some illegal due to covid), spent a summer together, when it looked, for all they knew, like it might be the last. They didn’t know how long the pandemic would last. They couldn't see their families. They couldn’t leave their towns or sometimes, their homes. They did it anyway. They got into trouble. They fell in love.

3 years later, they're engaged in a crowded plaza steps away from the Santa Maria Novella. Another on a long list of engagements they hadn’t planned, but into which they dove in head and heart first.

For Andrea and Ben, their story is about the heady fever in receiving life’s unexpected gifts, the passion of finding great love, and the impossible work of building the structure that real life demands around such unfixed, unstructured things.
