In 2019, Hunter met Andrea while visiting Mexico City for a few days to film a documentary. They went on two dates, and crushes ensued. But Hunter had to return to Minnesota, and then the pandemic hit. They stayed in touch but didn't see each other for two whole years.

In 2021, Hunter returned to Mexico for work, and knew he had to see Andrea. They reunited in a smoky wine bar in La Condesa. The sparks flew again. Over the next months, Hunter found many "professional reasons" to return to Mexico City, but it was really just to see Andrea. She visited him in Minnesota, too. Then, Hunter decided to move to Mexico City to be with her.

After a year and half together there, Andrea was accepted into graduate school in Chicago. They moved north and started a life together in a new city. They were very in love, and couldn't help picturing a happy future together. In the summer of 2024, on a drive from Minnesota to Chicago, Hunter knew it was time. They stopped along a lake, and Hunter asked Andrea to marry him.
