Our Wedding

Brian might say he met Andrea before she even realized it. In June 2017, Andrea moved to Memphis to join the Teach For America - Memphis team, where Brian was serving as a corps member for the past year. Brian distinctly remembers Andrea introducing herself to an entire cohort of 150 teachers at their fall orientation. Andrea stood out to Brian immediately, and he was smitten. Fast forward to a year later and Brian took a summer job on the same team that Andrea was a part of, and would finally get the chance to make his move. During summer orientation, Brian and Andrea found themselves always hanging out at events-- locked in conversation, hours would go by and at some point they would look around and notice everyone else was gone. After weeks of getting to know each other, Brian finally asked Andrea to "hang out" and see a concert at the Levitt Shell in Overton Park. That night, after an escapade across the city to find ice cream, a Queer Eye marathon, and lots of good conversation, Andrea finally went back to her apartment at 3 AM. The two of them wondered if they were just "hanging out" or if there was something more there...

Our Story

"The Best Birthday Gift Ever"

Brian had planned the big day for months. In order to throw Andrea off, Brian asked Andrea to visit Maymont park for the first time to celebrate his 30th birthday. That afternoon as Brian and Andrea were getting ready to head out for what felt like a nice, normal day in the park, Brian made the mistake of getting a bit "too" dressed up. Andrea was so suspicious she jokingly asked "You look really nice, what are you gonna do? Propose to me today or something?". Brian quickly deflected the question and the two made their way to the park. Andrea had no idea that Brian had already scoped out the perfect spot to pop the question. Andrea eagerly explored all that Maymont had to offer while Brian sweat internally. As they made their way to the famed Japanese Garden, the photographer was set in place and they reached the perfect spot. Brian got down on one knee and asked Andrea to be his wife. Unsurprisingly, Andrea panicked and sat on Brian's knee. After gathering herself and moving past her disbelief, she finally said "YES!". After emotions settled a bit, the newly engaged couple enjoyed a beautiful walk together in the park, signaling the beginning of forever, together.

What to do, see, and eat in MEMPHIS!

Walking in University District/East Memphis

Start your day with breakfast at Brother Juniper's located in the right by the University of Memphis Take a walk over to campus, where Brian called home for his Graduate degree. Check out the land bridge and the painted tigers spread throughout campus Hop in your car and head over to the beautiful Memphis Botanic Garden and enjoy a stroll Take a quick trip to Gibson's donuts for the best donuts East of the Mississippi Enjoy some retail therapy at the variety of shops spread up and down Poplar avenue, ranging from big box, to small, and local (including a new cheese shop!) Head back to the hotel to unwind and pick up Gus's Fried Chicken along the way

Walking  in Midtown/ Cooper-Young

Start your morning at French Truck Coffee, where Brian served coffee while he was in grad school, and explore the massive Crosstown Concourse Jump in the car and head over to the Stax Museum of American Soul Music, where you gaze at Isaac Haye's famous, Gold-plated Cadillac Make your way over to Cooper/Young, a vibrant neighborhood full of great food and local shopping. Alchemy, Next Door, Soul Fish and Young Ave. Deli are our favorite spots to grab a bite Stop by Bluff City Coffee on your way over to Overton Park, AKA the "Central Park" of Memphis where you'll find plenty of waking trails, an art museum, and the Memphis Zoo Wind down with a movie at Malco Studio on the square. Afterward, enjoy a stroll around Overton Square and grab some grub at Babalu's, Bayou, Second Line, or Huey's. For dessert, grab some ice cream at Sweet Noshings. If you're not quite ready for bed, take an Uber over to Railgarten for some outdoor drinks and live music

Walking  in Downtown

Start the morning at Comeback Coffee. in Uptown. After a relaxing breakfast, take a short ride over to the Bass Pro Pyramid for the silliest experience of your life Take your new Bass Pro Trucker hat over to Slave Haven Museum, to learn about the role Memphis played in during the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade. Decompress all that you've learned with some lunch at South of Beale, Catherine &amp; Mary's, Sage, or Aldo's Pizza Walk off that tasty food by taking the most scenic walk to Arkansas via Big River Crossing, a pedestrian bridge across the Mississippi with the best views of the city skyline If you're prepared to take on two emotional roller coasters in the same day, visit the National Civil Rights Museum at the Lorraine Motel. If you're not ready for the roller coaster, take a few pictures of the last balcony Dr. King stood on Ready for dinner? take a few steps over to Central BBQ, and discover why they invented bibs and wet wipes Finally, a trip to Memphis wouldn't be complete without a walk down the most famous street in Memphis, Beale street.
