So he took a deep breath and said to himself, “I’m going to message this woman”. So he tried to think up the most wittiest conversation starter to grab her attention. He finally mustered up the courage to message her. And thennnn…

She didn’t respond. She didn’t respond for weeks, maybe months, I don’t remember? No - it was really only about a day an a half... But it felt like years! And after she finally messaged him back, they never stopped talking. Ever. Throughout the entire day and night, 3am/3pm, it didn’t matter. They were so intrigued to get to know more about each other. Within days of talking, they both knew that they had to meet in person to see if this was the real deal. So they decided to meet up at Valle Escondido on Harrison Avenue. (A Mexican restaurant, for you uncultured Americans).

So they sat at the table, ordered margaritas, she then opened the menu and asked, “What are you gonna get?” But as he was so nervous, he said, “Oh, nothing. Probably just a margarita.” She was hungry...she hadn’t eaten ALL DAY. (But did she tell him that? No.) He settled by ordering chips and queso. And she thought to herself, “ hmm...cheap date.” They continued talking while ordering margaritas all the way up until closing time. They literally closed the place down just ordering chips and tequila.

They talked all night about everything under the sun and couldn’t get over the fact that at this point in their lives, as they were both in their mid thirties, thought that the single life was going to be their ultimate future. In fact, he bought a house (in Hamilton) 2 months before they met and she closed on her house (in Cincinnati, west side) not even a month after they met. He always assumed that if he ever did end up marrying someone, he would be the second husband and a step dad. She always assumed that she would just be the cool aunt who would liven up the party whenever it died down. But fate seemed to have a different plan in mind.

In the following weeks.. which turned into months, they hung out more and often, as couples do. They started falling in love. (Faster than any sane person would probably think was normal) In some ways they couldn’t be any more different. She went to OU, he went to Miami. She could cook, he couldn’t. He could budget, she couldn’t…well, she still can’t. But who they are separately, just clicked when they were together. It oddly enough felt right, never felt like it was going too fast or too slow. Everything just seemed to click. He met her friends, her family, and everything that was important to her. She met his friends, his family, and everything that was important to him. Two separate lives beautifully meshed into one.

Within six months, they together adopted their beloved FUR-SON, Zip. Later, that year he was invited with her family to Jamaica. They traveled to Atlanta to see his favorite band. Shared special moments and holidays. Moved in together. Went on a European adventure. And she showed him her favorite place in the world, Hilton Head Island.

She shared her favorite place with her favorite person.

The place - where he decided to 'put a ring on it'.
