El universo tiene una manera curiosa de unir a las personas. Aunque Andrea y Ray crecieron a solo 6.1 millas de distancia en el Valle de San Gabriel, se conocieron en UC Santa Cruz, un lugar que se sentía menos como una universidad y más como un planeta lejano habitado por un bosque mágico y niebla marina.

Ray aún recuerda cuando conoció a Andrea por primera vez. Se preguntó: “Ella dice que es de Baldwin Park, pero los hippies no viven en Baldwin Park... ¿o sí?” Resulta que sí vivían ahí.

Durante sus años universitarios, Andrea le enseñó a Ray la importancia de vivir el momento y, literalmente, oler las flores. Andrea también le enseñó a Ray a observar las estrellas, acostados en un sendero boscoso increíblemente escondido en un boulevard principal.

Pasaban sus días como compañeros de estudio y sus noches como filósofos, tejiendo un vínculo de conversaciones profundas y risas que parecía tan eterno como los inmensos árboles secuoyas que los rodeaban. Tras graduarse en el 2011, la vida los llevó por caminos distintos: Andrea se quedó en Santa Cruz y Ray regresó a El Monte. Sin embargo, se mantuvieron en contacto, persiguieron sus sueños y sobrevivieron la escuela de posgrado mientras admiraban el camino del otro a la distancia.

Damos un salto al 2021. Mientras la pandemia detenía al mundo, Andrea y Ray se encontraron de nuevo en la misma ciudad. Lo que comenzó como reencuentro de amigos rápidamente se convirtió en algo mucho más profundo. La cuarentena les dio el tiempo para reconectarse, crecer juntos y darse cuenta de que ya no eran los mismos muchachos de Santa Cruz; eran dos personas que habían crecido, evolucionado y, finalmente, elegido el mismo camino.

En marzo de 2026, Ray le propuso matrimonio a Andrea en su parque favorito, con el montaje más tierno y los girasoles más hermosos que Andrea jamás había visto. Un agradecimiento especial para Ceci, la mejor hermana/cuñada, por ayudar con los preparativos, y para Matthew por guardar el secreto y apoyar a Ray con sus nervios y su emoción.

La historia de Andrea y Ray no ha sido perfecta, pero sí ha estado llena de paciencia, comprensión, risas, crecimiento y muchísimo amor. Han crecido individualmente y en pareja de muchísimas formas desde que se conocieron. Ahora, esperan con ilusión comenzar este nuevo capítulo, festejando con su familia, incluyendo a su "familia elegida": todos aquellos que han brindado una guía y un apoyo inmenso a lo largo de su travesía.

Hoy, se sienten llenos de gratitud, alegría y esperanza al unir a sus familias para festejar el amor y el crecimiento que todos continúan cultivando. Desde lo más profundo de sus corazones, les dan las gracias a cada uno de ustedes.

The universe has a funny way of bringing people together. Although Andrea and Ray grew up just 6.1 miles apart in the San Gabriel Valley, they met in UC Santa Cruz—a place that felt less like a university campus and more like a distant planet of ancient redwoods and ocean mist.

Ray still remembers meeting Andrea for the first time. He wondered, “She says she’s from Baldwin Park, but hippies don’t live in Baldwin Park... do they?” As it turned out, they did.

Throughout their college years, Andrea taught Ray the importance of slowing down and literally smelling the flowers. Andrea also taught Ray to stargaze - while lying on their back in a hidden, woodsy pathway tucked impossibly along a major boulevard.

They spent their days as study buddies and their nights as philosophers, weaving a bond of deep conversation and laughter that felt as eternal as the redwoods surrounding them. After graduation in 2011, life took them in different directions—Andrea stayed in Santa Cruz while Ray moved back to El Monte. However, they kept in touch, pursued dreams, and survived graduate school as they admired each other’s journeys from afar.

Fast forward to 2021. While the pandemic slowed the world down, Andrea and Ray found themselves back in the same zip code. What started as catching up quickly turned into something much deeper. The quarantine gave them time to reconnect, grow together, and realize they were no longer the same kids from Santa Cruz anymore; they were two people who had grown, evolved, and finally chosen the same path.

In March of 2026, Ray proposed at their favorite park with the cutest setup and the most beautiful sunflowers Andrea had ever seen. Special thanks to Ceci, the best sister/sister-in-love, for helping with the setup, and to Matthew for keeping it a secret and supporting Ray through his nerves and excitement!

Andrea and Ray's story hasn't been perfect, but it has been full of patience, understanding, laughter, growth, and so much love. They have grown individually and together in so many ways since they first met. Now, they are looking forward to beginning this new chapter, celebrating with their family, including their chosen family—all who have provided immense guidance and support throughout their journey.

Today, they are full of gratitude, joy, and hope as they bring their families together to celebrate the love and growth they all continue to cultivate. From the bottom of their hearts, they thank each one of you.
