It all began in 2017 at a tennis tournament fundraiser at Klein Oak High School. Fate had a sense of humor that day, pairing Andres and Laura as opponents, with their little sisters, Carolina and Maria, as their doubles partners. In a match that would unknowingly set the stage for a love story, Andres and his sister emerged victorious, moving on to the next round.What wasn’t a competition, however, was the instant connection they both felt. Laura quickly developed a crush on Andres, and Andres felt the same way about Laura—but there was one problem: Andres was too shy to talk to her. So, as life would have it, they went their separate ways.Fast forward six years. Andres had graduated from the University of Tulsa and was back home, working remotely from his parents’ house. On July 23, 2023, Andres found himself at Covenant Church, praying earnestly for God to bring “the one” into his life. Little did he know, God works quickly—sometimes in a matter of hours. Later that same day, Andres stopped at H-E-B to pick up lunch for his family when, to his surprise, he saw her. Laura was working at the cash register. With his heart racing, Andres knew this was his chance. He couldn’t let her slip away again. Strategically, he chose her checkout line and, when it was his turn, sparked up a conversation. Laura, cool and composed, pretended to barely recognize him, but couldn’t help but smile when Andres asked for her number. She gave it to him, of course.From there, their story truly began. Their first dates quickly turned into adventures: beach picnics, salsa dancing classes, and grueling 8am CrossFit workouts followed by brunch after. On September 16, 2023, Andres took Laura to a romantic beach picnic and officially asked her to be his girlfriend. (She said yes, of course!) Over the months that followed, they traveled to Colombia to meet each other’s extended families, volunteered as English teachers for ConnextSteps, and built memories filled with laughter, faith, and love.By then, they both knew—their love was undeniable, and marriage was simply the next step. November 2, 2024:Andres had big plans. The evening was going to begin with a fancy dinner in The Woodlands, but halfway there, his mom called frantically, asking for help at church. Andres decided they couldn’t ignore it and turned the car around. Laura, understandably hesitant, eventually agreed to go inside with him. Laura found herself walking into a candlelit church to find a giant “Marry Me” sign glowing in the soft light towards the end of the church. Andres led her through a heartwarming memory lane, lined with photos capturing their love story. At the center of it all—where heart-shaped rose petals were carefully laid—Andres got down on one knee and asked Laura to marry him. She said yes. Their families, who had been waiting in secret, burst out to celebrate, filling the room with joy, tears, and laughter. It was a night they would remember forever. And so, here we are. Our relationship is a testament to the power of faith, prayer, and love. Through God, we found each other, and He continues to guide and strengthen us. Today, Laura works full-time in HR and is a graduate at the University of Houston and Andres recently received a well-deserved promotion. But more importantly, we know that every blessing—big or small—has come from God’s hand, and we’re excited to continue this journey together getting closer to HIM.
