Andrew and I first met in third grade when I moved schools to go to Pennfield. Up until sophomore year of high school, we had been close friends. We even dated in sixth grade (if that really even counts). During the fall of sophomore year, the friendship that we had known for years began to shift into something more. We became inseparable, seeing each other and talking almost every day. Later that year, we decided to make it official.
Later on, during the spring of our junior year, Covid-19 hit. Instead of spending our supposed "two-week vacation from school" in Michigan, we decided to spend a week in Florida with my brother and grandparents. Little did we know, we would be stranded in Florida for three weeks together. There were good moments and not-so-good moments during those three weeks. However, this "vacation" turned out to be one of the best things that could have happened for our relationship. During that time, we had some of the most vulnerable, honest, and open conversations, ultimately bringing us closer together. We continued dating throughout the rest of high school, attending numerous school dances, awards ceremonies, each other's sporting events, and eventually graduation.
We both went off to college, choosing different universities. I went to Spring Arbor University, while Andrew went to the University of Michigan. We quickly found out that being away from each other was going to be difficult. We each experienced a year full of adversity, tough transitions, and personal growth. To sum it up, freshman year was a little rocky for the both of us. Andrew was unhappy at Michigan, and I felt like there was a piece of me missing at Spring Arbor. The summer in between freshman and sophomore year, Andrew decided to transfer to Spring Arbor.
At the end of sophomore year on April 15th, 2023, Andrew proposed. The proposal caught me completely off guard. I was left speechless by the amount of detail and creativity put into this special day. He proposed at Lime Lake, just down the road from our campus in Spring Arbor. Afterwards, we headed to dinner, and I was surprised to find our entire family waiting at the restaurant. I was stunned again when we returned to campus to an engagement party with all of our closest friends. I was overwhelmed with joy. It was a moment that will forever be etched in my memory.
We are over the moon excited to become Mr. and Mrs. Hoban and could not be happier to have you join us on our big day!
