Our Wedding

Our story began in 2020 when I, Samantha, was living in Radford finishing my last year of college. I was single and enjoying my last year of college. Through college, I was involved with a campus ministry called Cru which is where I found some of my best friends that I still have to this day. In early March of 2020, before news of a global pandemic was set to take place, my roommates Angela and Haleigh got the opportunity to take a spring retreat trip to Panama City Beach Florida. I chose to stay at our shared house for spring break and complete some research for one of my classes. It would be my last spring semester and my last opportunity to do this specific research assignment. While my roommates were on this trip they got to meet and get to know other Cru students that were new to the ministry or in different class years. While on this trip they met a sophomore named Andrew. He introduced himself to my roommates and said he was from Bedford, Virginia. Little did he know that small piece of information would play a big role in his life just a few short months later. My roommates returned from that trip and just days later the world quite literally shut down. We were no longer allowed to go to campus or meet with our campus ministry in person. I missed the normalcy my routine once brought but I was thankful I had my roommates to keep me company during that time. We stayed up way too late every night, baked brownies, and just had good girl time. Those are still some of the best memories I have and I’m so thankful they are woven into our story. Now you’re probably wondering where does Andrew play into this story if he’s moved back home and not allowed to stay in his dorm and be on campus. One night after my roommates returned from their trip I got to hear all about what they did during the retreat. My roommate Haleigh mentioned how there was one guy on the trip named Andrew and how he was from Bedford. I thought what are the odds! A student in Cru that I had yet to meet from my hometown. I knew I wouldn’t get to meet him that spring semester and put out any other ideas that I may get an opportunity to know him. Fast foward from the spring through the summer to August 2020. Our campus ministry put on a new student bonfire for all incoming students to meet the current students. My roommates and I were all seniors and knew we had to make a big impression on the freshman. We wanted them to love the campus ministry the same way we did and have the same experiences. Needless to say we went all out. Another friend of ours at the time bought us nightgowns that had cats and dogs on them days before this bonfire just for fun. I got the bright idea to wear them to this bonfire… not expecting Andrew to be there. I thought everyone would get a good laugh and it would be a fun memory. Well it was memorable for sure. We showed up to the bonfire in our night gowns and the first person I saw was Andrew. I was so ready to turn around and go home to change. I will never forget the look on Andrew’s face when we all walked in wearing our nightgowns. It’s his signature one eyebrow raise. I was way too embarrassed wearing that nightgown to go up and introduce myself to him so my roommate Angela saw an opportunity while he was playing cornhole with another student to go over and play cornhole on a free board. She starts talking to me and asks where I was from. She knew full well where I was from but when I said “Bedford” Andrew noticed me again. We talked a little more that evening and I apologized for how embarrassing the night gown was. He said it made a good first impression. Little did either of us know it would lead to forever. After I got over the embarrassment of the night gown we went out for dinner a few weeks later where we were able to get to know each other better. We continued to see each other through the fall semester until I graduated in November of 2020. He was home for Christmas break but we kept up our communication over that time. We got to meet each other’s families that Christmas and carry on our hometown tradition of seeing Christmas lights at the Elks Home. We both returned to Radford in January for Andrew to continue his sophomore year and for me to continue to work, disciple students in our campus ministry and search for a job. After that spring semester was over God had other plans for both of us and we both moved away from Radford and back home. Andrew settled in and began working that summer and I continued interviewing for full time jobs. In the fall of 2021 I interviewed for a job in Easton, Maryland which I got. We began our two years of long distance and said goodbye to our weekly hangouts and time together. Over those two years he came to visit me as often as his schedule allowed and I came home as often as I could to visit. Those weeks in between visits were extremely long but we always looked forward to the time together. Fast forward to the fall of 2023 I got a new job back in Central Virginia. It was so exciting to get to see each other whenever we wanted and not on a planned weekend. Life has thrown us many curveballs over our 5 years together but I am so thankful this story is ours and I couldn’t be more excited to spend forever with the cute boy from Bedford County.

Haleigh Mullins

The brides best friend and college roommate. She also played matchmaker for Andrew and I. She’s always there when I need a hug or solid advice and is always up for a last minute adventure. 

Angela Ringley

The brides best friend and roller coaster buddy. Girlfriend to the best man. Loves everything coffee, cows, Dancing with the Stars and Glenn Powell. 

Taylor Hawkins 

Younger brother to the groom. Loves all things sports and cars. He also finds out the hard way what happens when you leave terrible selfies on other people’s phones. 

Jonathan Rice

Best friend to the groom and Dad to the flower girl. 

Hunter Wilson 

Best friend to the groom since seventh grade. They hold the debate of the century as to who’s the bigger Star Wars nerd. 

Hunter Frink 

Best friend to the groom. Lives just outside of Atlanta Georgia and is studying to become a doctor. 

Gabe Nino 

Honorary Member of our Bridal Party. Fozzie has been there for the majority of our relationship. We would be remiss not to include him somehow with our big day.
