Can I drive across the border?
Driving from San Diego to Valle de Guadalupe is one of the easiest and most popular ways to get there. The drive takes about 1.5 to 2 hours from the border.
Here’s what you need to know if you plan to drive:
🛂 Border Crossing:
Cross at San Ysidro or Otay Mesa
Have your valid passport with you
Make sure you have Mexican car insurance (required and can be purchased online or at the border)
U.S. driver’s license is valid in Mexico
🛣 Road Tips:
Use toll roads (CUOTA) for a smoother, safer drive—bring pesos or small bills
Drive during daylight for the best experience
Download Google Maps or Waze in advance in case of spotty coverage
Keep your vehicle registration with you
Border Crossing Tip!
If you're driving back to the U.S. after the wedding weekend in Valle de Guadalupe, consider signing up for Global Entry before the trip.
The border can get real crowded—especially on Sundays—and having Global Entry can save you from spending your post-wedding glow in a long car line.
Approval can take a few weeks, so if you’re interested, apply early!

Should I rent a car?
Renting a car is a great option if you’re comfortable driving in Mexico. Most roads are well-maintained, though some winery roads are unpaved. Alternatively, private drivers are available for hire and are a stress-free way to navigate the area.
Are there ride-sharing services like Uber?
Uber operates in Ensenada but is limited in Valle de Guadalupe. Pre-arranged drivers are recommended, and most can all be arranged from the Hotel.
