It all started when I heard Robert was selling his vinyl records. I had just begun collecting and was curious—and maybe a little excited—to see what he had. But beyond the records, I felt a gentle pull toward him, like maybe I should reach out and just... talk.
We ended up talking for hours. Something about him felt different. He had such a kind presence, and we shared a love for the same niche music. As someone who’s always had a big heart and a soft spot for love, I felt something brewing. But I had also just made a promise to myself: in December of 2023, I committed to going to church to grow my faith, not to fall for another guy who might break my heart.
Still, I couldn’t shake the feeling that Robert was special. So, I asked him to be my plus one to my close friend Jordan’s wedding. When I asked, he said, “Like a date date?” And I told him, “If you want it to be—if not, we can just go as friends.”
That’s when he said something that stuck with me: “We should take time to truly get to know each other first.” And so we did.
And the rest? That’s our favorite kind of history.
Well looking back, it all started as one of those trivial moments or what I thought was trivial, friendly even!
No what I thought was trivial turned out to be much more stronger, much more deeper, much much extremely much and I mean extremely much more crazy and wild then I even thought was possible…
ok I might be exaggerating a lil but it was crazy lol.
For our story it started as a simple hangout with fellow sisters in Christ on a little excursion to check out a new church in a land that was not so far away about 30 min south-east of Huntington Beach. It was a car ride of only friendly banter and old stories… or so I thought but unbeknownst to me a certain someone had maybe a passing interest in me. And I of course in that moment was not aware of this interest as my current understanding of brothers and sisters in Christ really blurred the line between friend and frrrrrrriiiiiieeeeend.
So I didn't think much of what was thrown my way, but I would soon learn that there is maybe a little more then meets the eye
or in this case a little more then what slaps you with a pound of bricks… as you soon shall see in my case
Now following the timeline of the first interaction, to the group event, to the discord messages, to the current facetime session, my viewpoint was as oblivious as a Mario Party newbie who didn’t see the Bonus Stars coming. In fact during this session I was quite excited I could finally sell some of my vinyl's off to a fellow Porter fan; FINALLY all of this could fund my dreams of becoming a monk and spiritually escaping this world!
…But sometimes life throws a curve ball and well (here comes the bricks) she invited me to be her plus one at a wedding as “friends”, and well lets just say the 2hrs it took me to process that request on face time was not enough time.
“You -u -uu mean as friends?”
“Well I mean if you want something more ;)”
“Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh…….”
***system error *** ……Rebooting*
And yea so it turns out you could just ask someone out on a date and not commit to a life time with them. And well it took me many months to figure that out. But right after that question I decided to lock in and take on that “side quest” as she called it. And well that side quest became the main campaign and the rest is an Ogrely complicated Onion to say the least 🧅
