The Details

You know those classic '90s high school romcoms—where the athlete ends up with the cheerleader? That kind of sums up our story. It was junior year. I was on the dance team, and Trey had just transferred to our school and joined the football team. In a small school, word spreads fast—so when my friends caught wind that I thought the new guy was cute, they took matters into their own hands. Our first interaction? I got pushed into him and awkwardly said hi. Not my finest moment. Weeks went by, and we didn’t cross paths again… until after the homecoming pep rally. He came up to me after our dance performance to say congratulations, which caught me off guard, but it was definitely a moment I would never forget. Later that night at the homecoming game, it started to rain, and I left early. That’s when I got a surprise text—my friend Chris had sent me Trey’s number. I was nervous to reach out, but eventually I mustered up the courage. From that moment on, everything just fell into place. Like it was meant to happen. Sure, I was the one who noticed him first—but there’s no denying he fell first, and he fell fast.

Angelia's Version

It always sucks being the new kid in school. Unfortunately, this wasn't my first time. Fitting in with a completely new crowd wasn't going to be easy, especially during junior year of high school, where everyone pretty much has their group of people. I tried making the most of it, though. I figured with this new start, I would give football a try. Although I had made friends in football, I would spend most of my free time in the morning and at lunch by myself. One day during lunch, I was chilling, minding my own business, when two guys sat down with me- Chris and Dylan. Little did I know this was the start of their master plan. Later that week I was walking down the hall trying to get to my next class before the bell rang when all of a sudden I see Chris talking to this girl. He looked at me, smirked, and in one smooth motion, pushed her—right into my arms.&nbsp;Instincts kicked in, I caught her. Her face flushed, her hair was adorably tousled, and she apologized like she hadn’t just flipped my whole day upside down. Chris introduced us with a smug grin. Her name was Angelia.&nbsp;Immediately, I thought, "Wow." I couldn't take my eyes off of her. Chris comes up smiling and introduces us. I could tell she was shy, which made me find her even cuter. She barely spoke, eyes shy and voice soft, but I was already hooked. That was our first interaction. A lasting one for sure. After that day, I tried searching for her again- walking past the same classroom, standing by the main hall, but no luck. A few weeks passed, and I felt like I would never see her again. It wasn't until the homecoming pep rally where we would finally meet again. I was sitting on the sidelines in the gymnasium and I spot her walking out to the center about to perform. My friend Mason pointed her out to me, confirming that it was her. The football team erupted into teasing chants and nudges. I laughed it off, but inside, my heart was racing.&nbsp;After the pep rally, I sprinted out of the gym down the main hall, waiting for her to pass by so I could get the chance to talk to her again. When I finally saw her, I congratulated her on her performance. Planning to see her later that night during the game, I played cool and gave her a hug before saying goodbye. To my dismay, she left the game early. Knowing I couldn't wait an entire weekend before seeing, let alone talking to her again, I knew I had to do something. As I was walking off the field, I ran into Chris. I asked him for Angelia's number, but his phone had died! Improvising I ran into the lockerroom and found an old Wendy's receipt. I scribbled down my number and asked Chris to send it to Angelia later that night. The whole night I had been checking my phone every second it seemed, waiting to hear it ding. When it finally did, I couldn't believe it. Since that night, we have been talking ever since. I knew right away that I couldn't let her go. I didn’t just meet a girl. I met my girl. And I’ve never looked back.

Our Story

Trey and I had a tradition—every summer, we’d drive down to the Outer Banks, get all dressed up, and take sunset pictures. So when he invited me on a spontaneous trip to Corolla, I didn't think twice. It felt like one of our usual adventures. But little things started to feel… different. My mom was unusually invested in my outfit choices, insisting I try everything on just an hour before we were supposed to leave. Looking back, she knew how much having the perfect outfit would mean to me in the moment when Trey asked the question. As we wandered around town, Trey seemed restless—nervous even—glancing over his shoulder like he was hiding something. When we pulled up to our hotel, alarms immediately went off in my head. The room was massive—far more than two people would ever need. A full kitchen, a living room, a dining room… my gut whispered, this isn’t just any getaway. And then I saw it: a massive bag of Hi-Chews on the counter. My brain froze, and I called out instinctively, “Yushi?” Suddenly, screams erupted, and I was tackled to the ground by Yushi herself! I blinked and realized I was surrounded—Therese, Alex, Ana, and of course, Yushi, who was still sitting on top of me. At that moment, my heart screamed, it’s happening. After greeting my girls, Trey rushed me to get ready for sunset, anxiety practically oozing from his every move. We raced to the beach. During the drive down, Trey casually mentioned that his uncle would be meeting us there so we could finally get professional pictures for a change. It was so obvious—but I played along. Once we arrived, we got a few beautiful couple photos, and soon after, my girls met up with us so we could take fun group shots. As sunset approached, we made our way to the edge of Janet’s Pier, the sky painted in hues of gold and rose. That’s when Trey got down on one knee and proposed.&nbsp;I immediately burst out screaming, “I knew it!” Just when I thought the moment couldn’t be more perfect, I saw my family quietly watching nearby, tears in their eyes and smiles on their faces. Being proposed to surrounded by the people who mean the world to me—my closest friends and family—was everything I’d ever dreamed of. That day was pure magic. It’s a memory I’ll treasure forever as one of the most beautiful moments in our story.
