Our Story

From Gregg's Perspective...

My name is Greggory Smith and I was born and raised in Chesapeake, Virginia. I attended Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia, which is where I got my Bachelor’s degree in Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness, as well as where I met my future wife, Angelica. I am in the Delayed Entry Program for the United States Air Force and currently waiting to receive my ship out date for BMT and technical school.

We met when our Catholic Campus Ministry held a new student retreat in the Fall of 2018. I was a transfer student and Angelica was a freshman. After introducing ourselves, it only took a few minutes for a friendship to naturally form. We talked about pizza, how we both always feel like we laugh way too much, and how we didn’t quite know what to expect from this retreat. I didn’t think she liked me at first, but thankfully I was wrong! As the year went on, we bonded over intramural sports, boba tea, talking about our families, and attempting to cook new recipes. We officially started dating by the end of the school year and our lives have been an adventure ever since.

After almost three years together, we are here with our son, Levi, and a daughter on the way--planning for our big day! We hope everyone is doing well and we are so excited to celebrate with all of you in September!

From Jelly's Perspective...

My name is Angelica Estrada, but you can call me "Jelly" for short. I was born in Richmond, VA but have lived in Virginia Beach all my life as the fifth child of seven. My interests include photography, vocal music, my Catholic faith, and food (specifically, pizza).

At the beginning of my freshman year at VCU, I met Gregg at our Catholic Campus Ministry’s New Student Retreat. I knew maybe two people at campus so I was looking to meet some new people at this retreat. Of course, Gregg walks into the room and once we started talking about food, we just didn't stop talking! I could hear God in the back of my head saying, with a wink, “you better look out for this one!" He knew that this was going to be the man that I'd love for the rest of my life.

With this first interaction and bonding over getting boba smoothies in between classes or cooking random meals, he easily became my best friend and my go-to person for anything. Now, after three years, we have grown in our relationship in so many ways and continually push each other to be better versions of ourselves. With one little Levi, a baby girl on the way, and a whole lot of life changes later-- here we are! Before Gregg gets shipped off to Air Force boot camp, we are finally bringing all of our loved ones together to meld our love in this beautiful Sacrament.

Our life together has been anything but ordinary, but we attribute where we are right now to a merciful and loving God. We can't wait for you all to join us in celebrating yet another milestone in our lives and we are praying for you all always!
