Check your passports for the following:
- Ensure your expiration date is at least 6 months beyond your expected stay.
- Ensure you have a sufficient amount of stamp pages in your passport book (minimum of 2 unstamped pages required).
Routine processing times for passports is currently 8- 12 weeks. Expedited processing is currently 5- 7 weeks, for an additional fee. There are additional expediting options for those in a real crunch but we ask that you take care of your passports ASAP so that we don't take any chances missing you at our celebration!
Passport application and renewal forms can be picked up at the Post Office (grab extra forms for mistakes and your fellow travelers). CVS and Costco are good places to get your passport photos taken. You will need these when sending out your application form.
The implementation of the ETIAS visa waiver for international travelers visiting Europe has been delayed until 2025. This means you will NOT need to submit an ETIAS application when traveling to Poland this summer.
The ideal time to purchase flights is 90 days prior to departure. If this makes you nervous, feel free to buy your tickets earlier, such as in November or January. Prices are typically higher in the month of December. From past experiences, Economy prices fluctuate from $750- $1200+ for summer flights, with the best deals being around $700- $900 per round trip ticket.
There are several airlines that can fly you to Poland. Our preferred airlines for the flight are United, Lufthansa, and LOT (Polish airline- Most budget friendly). KLM, Austrian Air, and Swiss airlines are also good options for the flight.
The closest airport to our venue is the John Paull II International Airport Kraków-Balice (KRK). If you are interested in a scenic road trip, you could also consider flights to Warsaw, Poland; Berlin, Germany; or even Vienna, Austria, which is what we will be doing this Winter!
Direct flights from the US to Poland are scarce. For travelers in the New York area, JFK is the only airport that has non-stop flights to Kraków. If flying from BOS, there are unfortunately no direct flights from Logan airport.
Layovers in Warsaw, Poland are most preferred as the connecting flight to Kraków is only 45 minutes, and navigating between gates is fairly straightforward. Other good options include layovers in Amsterdam, Netherlands; Berlin, Germany; and Zurich, Switzerland. We HIGHLY recommend you AVOID short layovers (anything less than 2 hours) in Frankfurt, Germany as the airport is extremely large, and travel between terminals/ gates is via bus/ tram, which almost always guarantees missing layovers of 1.5 hours or less.
Please be cautious of bookings designated as self transfers. These are also known as non-protected transfer flights. These can be great bargains but come with added risk if your primary flight is delayed causing you to miss your connecting flight.
We hope you take advantage of our summer celebration in Poland to explore the surrounding areas, which we have fallen in love with. For those looking to plan an extended journey in other areas of Poland and Europe, we recommend you consider booking your airfare as a mutli-city trip.
For instance, let's say you are traveling from Boston, MA with an interest to visit Rome, Italy after our celebration. Consider booking a multi-city trip with with Leg 1 from BOS to KRK and Leg 2 from ROM to BOS, and book a one way flight from KRK to ROM via completely separate itinerary. We have found that adding all three legs of a mult-city trip within the same booking results in excessively high pricing.
To drive in Poland, you must have either an international driving permit or a Polish national driver’s license: a U.S. State driver’s license without an IDP is not acceptable. Americans may use an International Driving Permit for six months from the date of entry into Poland. In the U.S., you can obtain an IDP from any local AAA office;
