There are a lot of people in Anna and Kyle's lives that would like to take credit for their engagement. Anna and Kyle have known of each other for years. Kyle has been best friends with Anna's cousin, Luke Robinson, since they started first grade at St. Luke Catholic School. However, it wasn't until a celebration of life for Anna's grandfather, Doug Robinson, at Après Jacks during Thanksgiving 2018 that the two chatted and soon thereafter, Kyle decided to ask Anna on a date. After an initial ask to a concert didn't work out because Anna was on call, Anna and Kyle's first date took place on December 5, 2018 on a beautiful winter evening at Newfields Winterlights. Other early dates included dinners out in Broad Ripple, Colts games, duckpin bowling, and a trip to Cincinnati to catch a Xavier Basketball game. Those that know Anna well understood something must have been serious early on if dates included attending sporting events! Throughout the two years of courtship, Anna and Kyle enjoyed socializing out and about in Indianapolis, spending time with family and friends, but most of all balancing being together.

Fast forward to December 2020. On Saturday, December 19, the two were supposed to meet a medical school friend of Anna's downtown for happy hour, or at least that is what Anna believed. Kyle had other plans. As the couple parked close to the agreed-upon happy hour location, they walked past St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Kyle is a parishioner at St. John's, and Anna and Kyle attended 7:00 p.m. mass together often early on in their relationship. The two continue to attend mass at the church, and therefore, it is an important spot to both of them. As Anna and Kyle walked past the main St. John's church doors on a crisp December afternoon, Kyle took to a knee, and asked Anna to marry him. She screamed a few times as he knelt, provided many "no ways," and therefore the full proposal had to be cut short. Yet, the outcome was the same; YES! Subsequent to the proposal, Anna and Kyle walked around the corner to Georgia Street to a group of Anna's friends, including the medical school friend that originally got Anna downtown. Anna and Kyle's families gathered safely outdoors that evening to celebrate the engagement.
