We met at Camp Moneto, a United Methodist summer camp in Nashville IN. We both went to this camp for years as campers, though never during the same week. Alex spent the summer of 2009 working as a camp counselor, and by coincidence (or God's plan) Anna was a volunteer counselor at the same camp during the same week. We got along instantly and had a great week of camp!

After that summer we remained friends, and the next summer we ended up as counselors at the same camp once more. This time the camp was Camp Indicoso, a United Methodist camp near Bedford, IN. At the end of the week, Alex finally got the courage to ask Anna on their first date!

Saturday, August 30, 2014 started off with hiking at Turkey Run State Park. This is something we do often, so Anna didn't suspect anything out of the ordinary. We hiked for about three hours and finally came to one of our favorite places in front of a small waterfall. That's where Alex told Anna to set her hiking gear down as he pulled a small box out of his backpack and got down on one knee. It was perfect. We hiked for another hour and had a beautiful picnic. We celebrated later with dinner at the Eagle's Nest in downtown Indy. Then we walked around Monument Circle together, wishing the day would never end!

We love Indianapolis, and plan to stay in the area after getting married. We enjoy going to Pacer games, camping, hiking, bike riding, exploring new places, running and cooking healthy meals together. We tease each other about graduating from rival schools, IU and Purdue. We still spend one week each year volunteering at one of the summer camps where we met, leading a camp designed for people of all ages with special needs. Our dreams and goals for married life include learning to sail, taking kayak trips, exploring different countries, going to a Colts game, volunteering at camp every year until we are too old, and enjoying every moment of the adventure of life together.

Alex grew up in Rushville, IN and graduated from Purdue University with a degree in Engineering Technology Teacher Education. After graduating he taught high school pre-engineering courses at Kankakee Valley (about a half hour south of Valparaiso IN) and coached the high school girls' soccer team. After three years of teaching he moved to Castleton, IN where he now works for Project Lead The Way on the technical support team. PLTW is the company that created the K-12 STEM education curriculum he was teaching. Alex is a big sports fan, and referees high school basketball games in his spare time.

Anna grew up in Plainfield, IN and graduated from Indiana University with degrees in Psychology and Cognitive Science. After graduating she started law school at the IU McKinney School of Law in Indianapolis. She is currently in her third year and will graduate in May. She loves environmental law and contract law and hopes to practice law in the Indianapolis area after graduation. Anna loves to read, cook and enjoy the outdoors in her spare time.
