Anna & Spencer

17 Days To Go!

In spite of Anna's resistance to the idea, the internet DID have a part to play in the meeting of Anna and Spencer. In 2019, Anna's sister Katie Beth was a member of a Facebook group that was designed for Reformed Christian singles to find fellowship. Katie Beth invited Anna and a man from church, Drew, to come to a meetup of members in Raleigh, despite neither of them being members of the group. Drew enjoyed it so much that he quickly joined. Anna enjoyed it, but not enough to create a Facebook account.

At this time, Spencer had not even heard of the group. He was starting his bachelor's degree, and had just sold the self-described "love of his life," his Subaru WRX. He was committed to God and growing in his faith, but not yet Reformed. That came three cars later, in 2023, and he eventually joined the same Facebook group that Katie Beth was in. Anna had caved to peer pressure and joined a few months earlier.

Meanwhile, through the course of his involvement in that group, Drew met the woman who would become his wife. The two of them were good friends with Spencer, and when they got married, both Spencer and Anna were invited.

At this point, they had never spoken to each other, but knew of each other from various group chats. It was fated never to happen. Anna was a starched, emotionless Presbyterian, and proud of it. Spencer was a Reformed Baptist who liked poking fun at the Presbyterians.

During the weekend of Drew and Victoria's wedding, Spencer had travelled to North Carolina with some friends. One of the plans for the weekend (orchestrated by one of Spencer's groomsmen, Marc) was to go shooting at the property of Anna's parents.

Upon arriving to go shooting and meeting Anna, Spencer immediately noticed how cute Anna was and even quietly made mention of it to some of his friends. She was quite the shot, too!

Spencer and Co visited Anna's church on the Sunday after the wedding, and went to her parents' house once again for lunch and fellowship after church. Anna showed Spencer her recently purchased Mazda CX5, which was a vehicle option Spencer had been considering as his Mazda3 had been totaled just a few short weeks before. Spencer DID end up purchasing his own CX5 not too long after arriving back home in Pennsylvania, and sent pictures of it to Anna.

Anna had rather liked Spencer as a person, and as their conversations continued she had to grapple with the fact that her understanding of baptism had begun to change before they met. She no longer felt confident that she couldn't date a Reformed Baptist, and decided with much prayer that her convictions were in a place where she could be open to dating Spencer.

In September 2024, Spencer went to Myrtle Beach. While there, he visited Palmetto State Armory and purchased a knife for Anna that she had mentioned wanting, refusing to let her pay. Shortly after, Anna mailed Spencer a fall-flavored candle.

Spencer and Anna stayed in touch regularly and eventually Anna told Spencer that he needed to friendzone her because she was getting attached. Mutual interest was revealed.

They continued in conversation, and decided that Spencer would visit Anna and her family and celebrate Thanksgiving with them that year! He had SUCH a great time getting to meet Anna's family and siblings, even if he was slightly overwhelmed with the sheer number of people there, compared to the size of his own family's usual Thanksgiving gatherings.

When Anna visited Spencer right after New Years, Spencer asked Anna to be his girlfriend.

During the course of their frequent texts, phone calls, and visits, it became clear that this was not a relationship like either had ever been in before. Both were used to feeling stressed and at times unsupported in romantic relationships, and found the other to be more than just someone they were dating. They became real friends, steady companions, and prayer partners.

Through much prayer, discussion, tears, and seeking counsel from others, the theological differences were found to be surmountable. While Anna and Spencer wouldn't claim to be 100% aligned on every single issue, they do believe that they are able to work together to honor God and live in a way pleasing to him.

On November 16, 2025, Spencer asked Anna to marry him, and she said yes. Now they prepare for the day, and the lifetime to follow.
