Our Story

Fair warning - I (Seth) am writing this while Anna is off on a mission trip in Greece (yeah she's awesome like that) so the events that follow may have a slightly biased perspective. Our story began soon after we both moved to Kouts, Indiana. I moved in September of 2024 to begin farming with my uncle and Anna moved back home a couple months later after going to college and working her first job in Huntington, IN. I had begun to get connected with Calvary (where we both go to church and where Anna now works) and had met a fun group of guys that I had been starting to hang out with. One night in early January we were having a typical game night, except that one of the girls had invited her friend to come join as well - and in walked Anna. That night Pictionary was the game of choice. We had 8 people playing so we put numbers in a hat (literally) to make two teams of 3 and one team of 2. As fate would have it (or perhaps as God would have it) Anna and I wound up as the team of 2. After quick introductions the game began and (all thanks to Anna's impressive drawing abilities) we immediately started to crush it. We wound up winning the first game and threw numbers back in the hat to play again and it just so happened that yet again, Anna and I drew each other. Carried once again by Anna, we won a second time. The group decided to play one final round and once again drew numbers and yep, you guessed it, Anna and I drew each other again. However, this time we were forced by the rest of the group to switch to different teams because "They’re too good together, we have to split them up." :) This same friend group was also in a church small group together which Anna and I both joined in the spring. Although this meant that we started to see each other on a weekly basis, our relationship didn't really kick off until March 21st. That night Anna had gotten word of an evangelism training and was actively inviting everyone she knew to come join (yeah she's awesome like that). Our small group was invited to join and although I was initially planning not to go, I ended up having the evening open and texted Anna to let her know that I was interested in joining the group that was going. She let me know that she had two others riding along with her and would be happy to come pick me up as well. Much to Anna's terror, both of her other friends backed out at the last minute, leaving her stuck driving with this random farmer 30 minutes away and wondering what they would possibly have in common to talk about. Despite the allegations, I did not in fact bribe the other girls to cancel (although if I had known what would come of it, there isn't a price I wouldn't have been willing to pay). As it turned out, both Anna and I were surprised to find out that we had a lot in common, including similar music tastes and a love for the outdoors and adventure. Given that the night was centered around evangelism training, our conversation also centered around our faith, and that's when I knew I was sitting across from someone pretty special. When Anna was talking about her love for hiking, I smoothly mentioned that my uncle owned a property with some trails on it and she would be welcome to come out and explore them sometime. I was later told this was not as subtle of a move as it seemed at the time haha. By the time the evening was over and she had dropped me back off at home, I was dead set on finding any possible way to keep getting to know Anna. (As a side note, if anyone reading this doesn't yet know Anna, I would highly recommend you also find any way possible to get to know her, she's pretty much the best thing ever!) A few days later, I had finished up with work and realized that all I really wanted to do for the evening was to spend more time with Anna. So, I decided to take a chance and sent her a text inviting her out to the farm to hike some of the trails. Anna saw the text and immediately panicked, screenshotted it, and sent her to one of her friends. After a bunch of back and forth with her friend, Anna decided to delete the polite rejection that she had already typed out and instead sent a yes. Anna's waffling back and forth on how to respond to my text meant that by the time she got to the farm there were only 45 minutes until sunset, which presented the perfect opportunity. Knowing we didn't have time to see much of the farm on foot, I invited her to hop on the back of a 4-wheeler with me and explore it that way. I guess at this point Anna figured she didn't have anything to lose so we took off into the sunset with her hugging around my waist and me trying to drive just fast enough that she felt the need to hang on tight :). We did manage to stop long enough to talk and watch the sun finish setting - the first of countless sunsets spent together.

Shortly after our 4-wheeler adventure, I called to ask Anna out on a proper first date which she agreed to without needing hours to text her friends this time. We spent that first date going on a taco tour together where we sampled tacos from restaurants all over Valpo. Before we even bit into the first taco, I knew this was the girl that I wanted to marry. Thankfully Anna was pretty quickly convinced as well and after the first date told her mom that she thought she was going to marry me. After patiently waiting 3 ½ more months filled with campfire dinners, sunsets, ice cream, and conversations shared together, I figured I had waited long enough and proposed on a beach along Lake Michigan. She said yes and now here we are, me writing this, Anna and I wedding planning, and you, reading this and soon to attend our wedding. We are so looking forward to it and cannot wait to see you all there!
