Alex and Anna met on April 18th, 2020, when Anna was 17 and Alex was 20, through Anna's sister and matron of honor, Kaleigh. Kaleigh had gotten to know the group Alex spent time with and was headed to a bonfire in Elmwood Murdock on the night of April 18th, 2020, where Alex planned to go to as well. Kaleigh begged Anna to go with her and although Anna was hesitant because she didn't know anyone that would be there, Anna went along. At the bonfire, Anna and Alex noticed each other but as Alex is quite shy at first, they did not speak to one another on their own. A bit later, Clay Schaardt, Alex's good friend and groomsman, started talking with Anna and eventually pointed across the bonfire to Alex and asked "See my buddy Alex over there? You think he's attractive?" Anna, not knowing Clay and clueless of what would happen, responded saying "I mean yeah, he's good-looking." Clay then yelled across the bonfire, loud enough for everyone there to hear, "ALEX, ANNA THINKS YOU'RE HOT!" Long story short, Anna was very embarrassed but Clay insisted that Alex come sit next to Anna and that they exchange numbers. Although very few words were exchanged between Alex and Anna that night, Alex and Anna started texting after that night and hung out in small groups for a couple weekends that followed as they got to know each other. They soon after started spending time with just each other. On their "first date", they went to lunch in Lincoln and to Scheels. They shared a lot of common interests and values, and found themselves really enjoying their time together. They decided to officially start dating on May 30th, 2020.

One year together went by fast, and they decided to get Ace, their male golden retriever. They realized after having Ace for months that he was born on April 18th, 2021, the day Alex and Anna met but a year later, which they thought was very special.

Alex and Anna's relationship has remained and strengthened through many different chapters of their lives from Anna being a Senior in high school, to graduating from college at UNL and starting her first year of teaching; From Alex living at his parents, to buying a house in Steinauer, and all of the other quests and projects Alex has taken on and completed. Alex and Anna's love for each other only continues to grow the longer they're together. Alex proposed to Anna on November 6th, 2024 and they are very excited to get married and start their forever together as Mr. and Mrs. Gyhra.
