Kensington is one of the largest Metroparks in southeastern MI. It is an amazing park with activities for everyone.
They offer 3 disc golf courses, one of which is an elite level championship course, a ball golf course, an 8 mile paved biking and running trail, which is also nice for roller blading. Make sure to pack your bike helmet as they are required when biking on the paved trail.
There are extensive hiking trails, a nature center, a farm center, two beaches, two boat launches, and a fishing pier. This is also a popular bird watching area with Osprey nests and a Great Blue Heron rookery.
If you only have time for a quick visit, we suggest going to the nature center at the park. There you can feed the songbirds right out of your hand while walking a small section of the extensive nature trails.
Grab some bird seed before you go and enjoy!
Highland Recreation Area is the state park where we are having the wedding. This is a large natural area that offers many outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, running, swimming, bird watching, fishing, and camping.
This park is built on land donated by the Ford and Dodge families. There is an interesting historical site called Haven Hill where you can hike up and see the remains of Edsel Ford's summer home, complete with an inground swimming pool! But, don't plan to swim there, today it is full of trees, not water. :)
This is a long standing local restaurant that is famous for its Greek salad, ribs, lasagna, and breadsticks. It is an excellent choice for lunch or dinner.
Milford, MI is an adorable small town just four miles from the wedding venue. You will enjoy browsing through the little shops or just sitting in a swing along the Huron River at Central Park. There are several great restaurants and bars to check out.
They also host a Memorial Day Parade on Monday at 11:00. Grab a spot along Main Street to enjoy the show.
This is an independent coffee shop on Main Street in downtown Milford and it is an absolute gem. While you are in town, check out their coffee, pastries, and ice cream.
This is a great local brewery in downtown Milford.
Anna's House is an upscale breakfast joint in downtown Milford. It is a bit pricey for breakfast, but worth it. The menu has all the traditional breakfast fare with several wonderful vegan options.
This is a creative little shop in downtown Milford where you can make your own candle. Of course, you can simply purchase many cute items in their gift shop, as well.
This is a great place to rent kayaks or canoes if you want to spend the afternoon on the Huron River paddling and bird watching. The people at Heavner's will drop you off down river and give you all the information you need to paddle back to their site.
If you want something fun to do inside, try roller skating. The Rolladium is a Waterford landmark about 20 minutes east of the wedding venue. Your kids will have a blast!
If the weather is bad, you might like to try bowling. Century Bowl is where Nate and Jon bowled during high school and where Bob bowls on a league now.
Detroit has a rich history of Art Deco buildings. The Guardian Building is a must see.
This is the oldest aquarium in North America. We recommend a day trip to Belle Isle. While there, check out the aquarium, the conservatory, the nature center, and the great lakes museum.
