With roughly 30 percent of its 8,000 acres preserved as usable green space, Big Canoe is rich in hiking trails– more than 20 miles worth– accompanied by lovely meadows. A 15-20 minute drive from Big Canoe, Gibbs Gardens is a 300-acre estate, now open to the public featuring more than 220 acres of gardens developed by the Gibbs Family.
Enjoy the serenity of nature and stroll along the streams with many waterfalls or around the water gardens with 22 reflecting ponds. The grounds include Japanese Gardens, the largest in the nation; Water Lily Gardens, the nation's largest display of 140 varieties in a natural environment; 20 million Daffodils; and Manor House Gardens with seven flowering terraces.
This is the perfect spot to spend a morning. There is also a special event going on Saturday Sept. 23rd and Sunday Sept. 24th!
The Monet Waterlilly Festival with Arts and Crafts Show (10am-5pm). Gardens open at 9:00am.
