How We Got Engaged

Her Story

It was an ordinary Wednesday... or so it seemed. My principal had called a meeting for the 7th and 8th graders at the end of the day. When I asked him that morning what it would be about, he assured me not to worry and that it was just about "business as usual". He told me he would be taking care of everything.

At lunch, I asked my coworkers what they thought, and Monica, the 7th grade teacher, speculated that it might be about the service hours that the 7th and 8th graders would be required to complete by the end of the year. I agreed and told her that that was probably it. When 2:15 rolled around, I brought the 7th grade class down to the Cabrini Room where 8th grade was already seated. Earlier in the day, they had asked me if it was a meeting because they were in trouble. I told them that I didn't think so! And then I started to get worried myself. Had I forgotten to do something? Were my students in trouble? Dr. Terry, my principal, then started the meeting after all the kids were seated and rattled off some business items. I was half paying attention when all of a sudden, he announced that we also had a special guest with us.

At that moment he looked to the door on the other side of the room, and out came Anthony, a dozen roses in hand, mustache curled, and rocking a pink bow tie. I couldn't believe my eyes, since to my knowledge, he was in the middle of his work day at Starbucks! What a sneak! He marched right up to me, said, "Hey," and got down on one knee. The room erupted in screams, and I covered my mouth in shock and excitement. I touched his face and mustache, and thought of how cute he looked. He then asked me if I would make him the happiest man in the world. I instantly said yes and went in for the kiss and hug. I was in shock! He slipped the beautiful engagement ring on my finger and there was more hugging and kissing. It was the sweetest moment of my life. :)

His Story

Wednesday, December 10th, 2014! I find myself sitting in a hall way right outside of a meeting room at St. Vincent. My hands are sweaty and time just seems to be standing still. This was the day that I ask the woman of my dreams to be my wife. I hear the students enter the room and start to breathe heavy. In less than one minute, I will be busting through that meeting room's doors and get on one knee. Will I remember what to say? Will she say yes?.........

Flashback to the previous Thursday. I am sitting at Anna's parents' kitchen table talking to her parents about my intentions to propose to Anna the following Wednesday. I told them I was planning to propose during a flash mob that I was putting together. That was the plan, but that following weekend, everything fell apart. What was I going to do now? I was not going to let this hiccup delay my proposal.

I decided to call Anna's school and speak with the head honcho, Dr. Terry (her principal). Together we put together a plan that was sure to catch Anna by surprise. I was going to pop in during a fake meeting and propose in front of her and her 7th and 8th graders. Dr. Terry took care of everything! All I had to do was make sure Anna did not suspect anything. Easier said than done, considering Anna caught me looking through her phone a week earlier while I was trying to get in touch with some of her friends. Totally caught off guard, I made up something about me trying to look at her secret wedding Pinterest board.

Flash Forward.........

I told Anna that I was working on D Day. She bought it! I also told Anna that my facebook chat was acting funny so we had to chat via text message. I didn't want her knowing my location seeing as how I was at her school waiting in the break room.

I get the signal. It's GO TIME! I straighten up and get myself together. Flowers.... check. Ring....... check. My nerves............. ah, check! here we go!!!!!
