Introductory Rites

The priest greets the congregation, and we begin in prayer, asking God to bless and guide this celebration of marriage.

Liturgy of the Word

Passages from the Bible are read aloud, culminating in the Gospel, which shares the words and deeds of Jesus. The priest then offers a homily (sermon) reflecting on the readings and their connection to marriage.

The Rite of Marriage

We exchange vows, uniting us in a sacramental bond. This bond is more than a legal or emotional commitment; it is a covenant blessed by God. In the sacrament of marriage, God’s grace is present, strengthening us to live out our vows faithfully and helping us grow in holiness together. This union mirrors the love between Christ and His Church.

Liturgy of the Eucharist (Preparing for Communion)

Bread and wine are consecrated by the priest and, through the power of the Holy Spirit, become the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ. This is not merely a symbol; Catholics believe in the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist. Under the appearance of bread and wine, Jesus Himself is truly present—body, blood, soul, and divinity—offering spiritual nourishment and uniting us intimately with Him and one another.

The Sign of Peace

Just before Communion, we will exchange the Sign of Peace. This moment emphasizes the unity and peace found in Christ's love. The priest invites everyone to greet one another with a handshake or a gesture of peace, symbolizing our shared commitment to love and harmony.

Communion

Catholics who are in a state of grace (free from serious sin through the Sacrament of Confession) and have fasted for at least one hour before Mass may receive Holy Communion. If you are not Catholic or Catholic and not prepared to receive, you are warmly invited to remain seated or come forward with your arms crossed over your chest to receive a blessing from the priest.

Concluding Rites

The priest offers a final blessing, and we are sent forth to begin our new life as husband and wife, surrounded by the love of God and our community.
