Things to Do

San Antonio is a great place to spend a spring weekend, especially at the beginning of Fiesta! There will be a festive mood, so consider lingering after the wedding to partake in the fun events. Downtown and King William are especially vibrant, and our hotels have indicated they will extend our group rates to shoulder days around the event.

PLEASE BOOK YOUR LODGING EARLY so that you don’t run into scheduling difficulties!

THINGS TO DO IN SAN ANTONIO

The River Walk – lots of restaurants and bars, and increasingly a vibrant community scene.
We especially like Elsewhere (the bar) and Make Ready (a food hall just off the river.)

The Pearl – great urban development with Saturday Farmers Market and lots of bespoke shops and food. Hotel Emma is a local legend. Great dining options – you can spend a day there (and it’s on the Riverwalk).

The Alamo – in the middle of downtown, an iconic piece of Texas history.

Mission trail – this is a hike and bike path that winds its way along the river and past the city’s 6 Spanish missions (of which the Alamo is one). Electric bikes for hire along the trail.

La Villita – piece of SA history with original structures and great shops downtown.

GOOD GRUB
Reese Brothers Barbeque - just east of downtown.
Scott's Pizza - Great Pizza and by a Sewanee alumn no less!
Menger Bar - Located in the historic Menger Hotel, for history buffs and cocktail connoisseurs alike!
Mi Tierra - Festive, historic, and delicious! Might be crazy during Fiesta but worth a shot to see a tourist and local fave.
El Carriqui – upscale South Texas cuisine with great atmosphere and good cocktails
Josephine Street – Traditional steakhouse with tree growing through the dining room
La Fonda on Main – Dependable Mexican cuisine and great atmosphere.
Cullum’s Atta-boy – decadent brunch, great ambience.
Atta-girl around the corner is also excellent, just not as decadent – fried chicken versus eggs benedict and oysters).

The Friendly Spot – beer garden in King William – what’s not to like?

Little Em’s – Oyster Bar in King William – Tiny. Can’t go wrong.

Then on your departure, might we suggest at the airport walking through the Burger King to La Gloria - located just past security. Delicious breakfast tacos and drinks to top off the weekend. Gotta actively look to find it.
