Annie and Alex officially met in the summer of 2016 while part of the Carolina Crown Drum & Bugle Corps summer tour, though they did not know each other well. The next year, Alex finished up his studies at Indiana University while Annie began her teaching career in Dallas. It wasn't until October 2017 that their paths crossed again. This particular evening was like many fall evenings in Texas: the air was cool and the sound of marching bands resonated for miles. Alex was volunteering at a marching band competition that Annie's students were performing in. The two happened to run into each other that evening and began to keep in touch over Facebook. The rest is history! Through years of trips throughout the U.S. and abroad, sharing in each other's musical and educational experiences, connecting two amazing families, and supporting one another through life's highs and lows, Annie and Alex came to love each other deeply, and their love grows deeper every day.
On June 12, 2020, Alex popped the question at the end of the scenic Emerald Lake trail in Rocky Mountain National Park. The summer light was shining beautifully on the surface of the water as Alex nervously got down on one knee and asked the question he had wanted to ask for quite some time. This was the high point of what had been a fantastically memorable summer trip.
