Most of you know this story, but it’s our favorite to tell. Both of us have different perspectives on what actually happened, so we wanted to give some space for us both to share how it all started:
AK: We met in October 2017 as our mutual friend groups merged and decided to go to Denver Downs to celebrate the fall season. As we started hanging out more and more during campus activities, BCM retreats, late night study sessions, and trips with GoHead, we quickly became friends. I thought so highly of Noah and how he cared for others, and he even went out of his way to care for me after I went through a breakup. What a kind friend, am I right?? We started studying in Thrift Library together (where AU dreams are made of), and I guess that’s when things started changing. In March 2018, Noah told me that he would love to take me out on a date. As the independent woman I am (was?), I refused to acknowledge my feelings for a while… a long while. It wasn’t til September 2018, after many months of Noah patiently pursuing me, fighting for me, and being a really good “friend” that I finally let him take me out on that date. We’ve been together ever since. Five years later, this man still patiently pursues me and fights for me daily. Now he’s my best friend, and I can’t wait to spend forever by his side.
Noah: Annie Kate and I met during our freshman year of college at Anderson University. With her being the beautiful, intelligent soccer star, she hardly had time for an average, regular student like me. After realizing how amazing this redheaded girl really was, I began to quickly catch feelings. Unfortunately for me, she did not reciprocate those, and I spent the majority of the next eight months in the dreaded friend zone. After months and months of spending time together and having one-sided interest, she finally caved in and gave me a chance. We went out on our first date on September 1, 2018, and the rest is history!
The most fun day!!
AK: With a lot of patience, some creative explanations (AKA lies), and some help from my mom taking every late night phone call and derailing every suspicion, Noah successfully pulled off the best surprise and the sweetest proposal! I went up to Lake Lure on March 3rd thinking that I was going to an early birthday dinner with my family. Noah met me at our family’s house, but as he drove me to dinner, we took a little detour. He pulled off into the driveway of a home that I’ve grown up passing by and admiring for years. I’d always point out to Noah the drawbridge over the creek in the backyard of that home- little did I know that that’s where he would choose to propose to me!! We had the sweetest private moment filled with laughs and tears and promises, and I said yes to the man of my dreams!
Noah: Because of Annie Kate’s personality wanting to be “in the know” on everything going on, you’re probably not shocked that pulling off a surprise this big was quite difficult. Talking to her parents, buying a ring, planning the proposal, and organizing an engagement party kept a lot on my plate. Doing all of those things without her finding out is one of my biggest accomplishments to date. Weather changed the details on the big day, but we have some great friends that helped with the transition and were able to still make it the most special day! It’s the most nervous that I’ve ever been in my life, even though I had a good idea that I was going to like her answer. We parked the car, walked out to the drawbridge in the rain, and I finally got down on one knee. A sweet moment was followed by celebration with our friends and family over the next few days, something that I’ll never forget. I can’t wait to marry my best friend!
As I (AK) write this entry, 2023 has come and gone and 2024 is finally here! Noah and I have graduated physical therapy school with our doctorate degrees and we both passed our licensure exam- so pretty soon you will be able to call both of us Dr. Calvert, PT, DPT! Leading up to the wedding, I will be starting my job at AnMed Outpatient Therapy Services and Noah will be starting his job at Driven Physical Therapy. We look forward to getting involved in local athletics, our church family, and the AU community. We are so excited to start our lives together in Anderson, South Carolina!
We would like to take a second to recognize our friends and family who have supported and encouraged us along the way. We are so thankful for you all, and we would not be where we are today without every one of you! We look forward to celebrating all the things with all of you so soon!
