Summer of 2009

&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;In&nbsp; an attempt to garner some experience in the medical field after finishing his sophomore year at Carolina, John had returned to his home town of Wilmington, North Carolina and&nbsp;found himself&nbsp;&nbsp;sitting&nbsp;back in the classroom .&nbsp; &nbsp;More time&nbsp;in the classroom and less time on the beach is a hard sell to any 20 year old. Unless, of course, someone worthwhile&nbsp;happens along.

&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;By a stroke of serendipity, Annie had similar plans&nbsp;after finishing her&nbsp;freshman year at the same institution.&nbsp; She made her way to the North Carolina coast&nbsp;for&nbsp; EMT training.







&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Almost immediately,&nbsp; John recognized Annie.&nbsp;After many failed attempts to get Annie's attention,&nbsp;he was ready to give up, until he recognized she was living less than a mile from his parent's home. Before too long they were spending their mornings driving to that same class with one another, realizing that both had more in common than they initially thought. As the summer wound down, they both returned to Chapel Hill, determined to continue their relationship.&nbsp;









&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; John graduated in 2011 and&nbsp;moved to Raleigh to work in EMS.&nbsp;&nbsp;A year later, Annie moved&nbsp; to Greensboro where she spent time working in the ED at&nbsp;Moses Cone Hospital. For the first time, things weren't as easy as they were in Wilmington or Chapel Hill. Trips to visit one another were longer, time spent together was shorter, and frustration found a way in. Despite this, Annie and John found a way to push through, connecting with one another as often as possible, knowing that the situation would only be temporary.&nbsp;









&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;In 2013, after two years apart in North Carolina, Annie was accepted into PA school in Winston Salem&nbsp;and John was set to move to South Carolina for medical school. With both realizing their shared aspirations from years earlier, &nbsp;both were confident that they could make the distance between them an afterthought. And they did. Weekly, John would make the trip to Winston Salem or Annie, to Spartanburg. They built&nbsp;&nbsp;relationships with wonderful friends and watched each other's careers begin.









&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;Finally, on March 31st 2017, during a misty afternoon in Winston Salem, John proposed to Annie in Reynolds Gardens after nearly 8 years together. (She claims she knew the day and time it was happening :))
