Central Texas is home to several large colonies of Brazilian free-tailed bats.
Mount Bonnell is the highest point within the Austin city limits, and it provides a breath-taking view of the west Austin hills.
Note: There are steep stairs to access the park, and there are no toilet facilities.
Zilker is a HUGE park in south Austin. Some of the top features are the enormous playground, Barton Springs pool (a spring-fed pool that is 68 degrees F year round), and tons of sports fields.
Lady Bird Lake, adjacent to downtown Austin, is a paddlers dream. No motorized boats are allowed! There are 8 entry points to the lake, and there are many outfitters who rent equipment.
You can also walk, jog, or ride along the boardwalk surrounding the lake.
