Antonella and David had first started dating January 2022. Due to world circumstance they decided to have their first date at Mission Island feeding the deer (all of the restaurants were closed, and too cold out for patios) David picked Antonella up in his work truck and they headed to Walmart to buy carrots.

David waited until Antonella left for Costa Rica - as an early graduation trip in September 2022- to sneakily buy an engagement ring with the help of Sean, his brother and best man, and Jenn his sister-in-law and Antonella's bridesmaid. It was mid November when David called Mom and Dad Carlino and said he was doing a "delivery" for work in Schreiber and would stop by. This resulted in Dad Carlino responding with "Sure, why not?" once David asked Antonella's parents and with mom Carlino supplying David with several cured sausages to bring home. Although Antonella should have noticed David sneaking off throughout the next weeks to secretly eat his sausages in the garage, she had no idea what was in store.
