Ariana and John grew up just one town apart, likely shopped at the same grocery stores, drove the same roads, and maybe even stood behind each other in line at Dunkin’—but somehow, they never met. For years, they lived only minutes apart, but the universe apparently had other plans (or just a weird sense of humor).
Then, in May 2023, destiny showed up... in the form of a five-inch phone screen. Ariana messaged John first (hero move), and John, in classic fashion, took a leisurely two weeks to reply. Two. Entire. Weeks. Somehow, Ariana—generous, curious, or maybe just intrigued by his dog—gave him a chance. And, believe it or not, it worked.
John is a nurse who spends his days caring for people and spending his free time outdoors—hiking, exploring, and voluntarily doing things that involve dirt and inclines. Ariana is a lawyer who loves a good cozy couch, a well-structured argument, and preferably, air conditioning. Still, she agreed to hike with him. And by “hike,” we mean she stumbled up a trail, dramatically questioned all life choices, and asked how many more minutes until snacks. John, to his credit, didn’t leave her behind.
Despite (or maybe because of) their differences, it just clicked. Ariana brought passion, humor, and the spontaneous ability to debate literally anything—from the ethics of pineapple on pizza to whether giraffes are overrated. John, calm and steady, would listen, nod, and then gently remind her that Die Hard is, in fact, a Christmas movie—an opinion Ariana strongly and repeatedly rejects.
Their relationship became a mix of cozy mornings, walks around town, impromptu road trips, competitive board games (Ariana wins—according to Ariana), and quiet evenings full of laughter and debates no one else would start but her. They especially fell in love with Newburyport—a favorite weekend spot where they could relax, walk by the water, and dream about the future.
In May 2025, during one of those casual Newburyport days (and after Ariana had made it very clear she was hangry), John got down on one knee. Right before the big moment, Ariana—true to form—quoted Napoleon Dynamite, unaware she was seconds away from being proposed to. Somehow, he still went through with it.
She said yes.
Now they're planning a lifetime full of laughter, snack breaks, philosophical debates about household appliances, and a love that's already hiked through a few hills (literally).
