A surprisingly delightful museum brought to you by one of the original owners of the Ringling Circus. The art museum has a wonderful collection, Ca' d'Zan - the Ringlings' former home - is a beautiful piece of architecture, and the museum grounds are one of Jason's favorite places to go plein air painting.
Also known as "The Ringle".
15 acre botanical garden just south of downtown Sarasota. Jason used to sketch here.
Aquarium!
Peninsular park near downtown Sarasota.
Makes for a nice late afternoon or evening activity - explore the bayfront and marina, walk to dinner at any number of the many restaurants in downtown Sarasota, wander by the galleries on Palm Avenue. One of Jason's favorite evening activities to do with his friends.
Sarasota's best nerd store! Jason and Ari like to paint Dungeons & Dragons miniatures as a shared hobby and at-home date night activity, and always try to stop by this store while in town.
Good for shade and picnic, typically less crowded, close to where Ari lived. Part of Bradenton Beach.
Good for shells, wildlife, Tampa Bay connects to the Gulf here. North of Bradenton Beach.
Jason used to paint here regularly, good for shade and picnic, Sarasota Bay connects to the Gulf here.
Famous beach, wide and well-maintained, popular with tourists. Can get crowded.
Quality breakfast / brunch place. Years ago, hosted sketching groups including many Ringling College people and friends - including Arianna, Jason, painting mentor Fiore Custode, and more.
Better known as "Coffee Coffee" to Jason and Ari. Greasy-spoon style food with an inexplicable Appalachian-mountains-meets-the-beach theme, great for mornings when you don't feel like cooking.
Excellent fish tacos. Casual dinner on the water, attached to a marina. Has outdoor seating options; nice for sunsets with good weather.
Lots of seafood options, good dinner place if you're in Bradenton Beach. Slightly more upscale than Tide Tables. The Bridge Street Pier (extending into the sound behind the restaurant) is fun to check out too.
