Our story started at Lewis university. It was my senior year and Matt’s junior year. We were in a gen ed together and of course I was late to the first day of classes. The only sit open, at a table of like six people, was next to Matt. So, I sat down next to him and the rest was history.

I found out through that class that Matt was also from Blue Island. I didn’t believe him so I often teased him about how a smart boy like him couldn’t be from BI. From that class me and Matt became acquaintances. It wasn’t until one Sunday afternoon when I went to visit my grandma that we really became friends. My mom and my self were driving to my grandmas when I see two guys walking down the street (2 mins from my grandmas) and I realize it was Matt from Lewis! I tell my mom to reverse the car and say hey, what are you doing here? He then says I live here and I couldn’t believe it. We then decide after he goes to a gas station that we are going to meet up at my grandmas afterwards.

That’s where I learned that this whole time, Matt had actually lived behind my grandmas house. We talked for a little bit then Matt returned to his friends. It’s crazy to me that it took both of us moving an hour away (Lewis university) to meet each other when really we grew up minutes apart from each other. We also had similar friends and just actually never met.

Over the next sixish months Matt and my self became really good friends. I sometimes feel like it was his mission to become good friends. He would show up where I was, bring me snacks, and hang out in the library with me all the time. He would help me get things for my sorority approved because he worked on campus. I kept Matt in the friend zone for those six months because he was a social butterfly often with lots of friends that were girls. Matt was very popular on campus.

The end of my senior year is when I really started to take a liking for Matt. It was finals week and I didn’t live on campus so I would spend very late days in the library often accompanied by Matt. One day I asked him to come with me to my brother’s house and Matt said yes. We were just going to have a movie night and hang out. That was the first time Matt had met that portion of my family. This was the day I realized that Matt had liked me too. We were watching a movie and Matt went to hold my hand. Until my little nephew (Nolan) who at the time was maybe 3 or 4 asked to sit in between us. We laughed about it and from that moment forward the rest has been history!

9 years later, a beautiful baby boy of our own, and I feel like our love story is just being written.
