In 2008, at Spring Valley High School, Terry met Ariel in Mr. Lee's computer class. What began as a simple classroom encounter soon grew into a wonderful friendship. Terry’s first thought upon meeting Ariel was, “I need to steal her notes for this class—just kidding!” They bonded over their shared love of comic books, mutual disinterest in politics, and Terry’s funny debates with his friend Tim, who would later become his best man.

By 2009, their connection deepened, and they went on their first date to see Sherlock Holmes. Terry was visibly nervous and fidgety until Ariel nudged him playfully and said, “Relax, I’m not going to eat you! We’re here to have fun and enjoy a mystery movie.” That broke the ice, and Terry relaxed, responding with a sheepish “Okay.” Terry’s first impression of Ariel was that she was “so smart and funny,” while Ariel thought, “He’s so cute when he’s nervous.”

After Ariel graduated in 2010 and began college, Terry completed his senior year, but they remained close, keeping their fun and meaningful connection alive.

In late 2011, Terry shared a life-changing decision with Ariel: he was joining the United States Air Force. He explained that he needed more discipline and a better way to pay for school than a typical nine-to-five job. He then asked Ariel to be his girlfriend and wait for him while he pursued this path. Ariel happily agreed.

During Terry’s 8-week basic training, they exchanged heartfelt letters. One of the funniest letters Ariel received described Terry’s experience in the gas chamber during training. He joked about how it felt like he was going to die, but his sarcastic banter and the mental image of his facial expressions gave Ariel a good laugh, even as she worried about him.

As their relationship grew, Terry completed tech school and returned home in 2016 after leaving the military. Their reunion was filled with laughter, love, and catching up on everything that had happened during their time apart. In that moment, it felt like no time had passed.

Over the years, they celebrated many milestones together:

Terry graduated from college with a degree in English and Creative Writing.

Ariel launched her business, FluffyNinja Transport, LLC, during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ariel also graduated as a Medical Assistant and Phlebotomist in 2017.

In 2023, they moved in together, marking a new chapter in their journey.

But the most unforgettable moment came on Friday, January 13, 2023. Terry took Ariel on a date to Applebee’s with a surprise in mind. During their meal, he leaned across the table, took her hand, and asked, “Do you like us living together?” Ariel, distracted, replied, “Yes, I can concentrate on school more, and I’ve been able to adjust my schedule to prioritize my health.”

Terry then smiled and asked, “How would you feel about staying for the rest of our lives?”

Caught off guard, Ariel dropped her phone and exclaimed, “Wait, what?”

Terry replied earnestly, “I love you and want you in my life forever. Will you marry me?”
