Our Story 1

Our Journey

Arielle and Jake met within the first few days of their freshman year at Indiana University. Their groups of friends met up on the first weekend in Bloomington to look for their first college party. While everyone walked down the street looking for a place to hang out, Jake and Arielle got to know one another. Jake tried to impress Arielle with his vacation stories and adventures of swimming with sharks, but unfortunately she is scared of sharks and was dating someone else at the time. The timing just wasn’t perfect.

Fast forward to Senior year of college. On the first day of class, Jake walked in and noticed Arielle sitting alone, so he sat down in the empty seat next to her and they reconnected after 3 years. They caught up on their experiences abroad, Arielle would watch Jake doodle instead of taking notes, and over the next few months they grew to become close friends. Come October, Jake decided to ask Arielle to his fraternities Date Party, and with a stomach full of butterflies, she said yes! They continued to spend more time together and slowly started to fall in love. They made the most out of their final semester together by going to Formal in Nashville, spring breaking in Punta Cana, attending the Kentucky Derby, all while becoming the best friends they are today.

After college, Arielle returned home to Chicago, while Jake moved to Arizona for work. They spent the next two years (what felt like forever) making it work in a long distance relationship, but that definitely wasn’t good enough. In October 2017, Arielle moved to Arizona to continue her adventures with Jake and take the next step as a couple.

The Proposal

On June 15th 2019, Jake and Arielle woke up at 4am to hit the road and go hiking for the day at Cibecue Falls. Jake had done this water hike in the past and recommended they rush to get there before the crowds in order to have a chance at enjoying the waterfall at the end of the hike in peace. When they arrived, there was one group of hikers ahead of them and Jake made Arielle rush past them to ensure they were the first ones to the waterfall. As they reached the waterfall, Jake mentioned he was getting hungry and could go for a snack. Arielle put down her backpack as he went looking for a snack in his. Arielle of course took out her phone to start taking pictures of the beautiful view, when Jake asked her to put her phone down and come over towards him for a minute. When she turned around, Jake was down on one knee on the rocks and opened a little black box, and there it was… a beautiful shiny diamond ring. He was obviously nervous, but eventually got the words out "will you marry me?” She was so caught off guard, she asked Jake if he was serious, almost in pure shock. When she realized he wasn't kidding, she immediately screamed “YES”. Thanks to Jake rushing Arielle all morning just for the view, they had the opportunity to take it all in, enjoy the moment, allow Arielle to realize what just happened, and celebrate in peace with the gorgeous waterfall all to themselves!
