I'm interested in wearing Indian clothes! What do I get?
Here are descriptions of clothing items you might consider.
For Men:
Kurta Pajama - Kurta Pajama - A long tunic (kurta) work with straight or fitted pants (pajama). It can be dressed up with a Nehru jacket but this is very optional. If you don't like the kurta pajama pants, definitely feel free to wear with western pants.
For Women:
Saree - A long draped fabric worn with a blouse and petticoat, often made of silk, chiffon, or georgette with intricate embroidery and embellishments. It is customary in South India to wear a Saree so you will likely see a lot of our family wearing this. If you are interested in wearing a Saree, we recommend that you get one that is pre-pleated as it can be difficult to drape on your own. However we may also have sari drapers available to help on the day of so please reach out if you may need this.
Lehenga - a heavily embroidered skirt (lehenga) paired with a fitted blouse (choli) and a dupatta (scarf). This is an easy to wear and elegant option.
There are many other types of styles available for women. Don't stress if you've never worn Indian clothing before - we're here to help if you have questions!
Where can I buy Indian clothes?
If you’re looking to buy something, here are some great options that ship to the U.S. (many offer custom sizing!): Lashkaraa, Kalki Fashion, Pernia’s Pop-Up Shop – US-based with personalized support.
Will the ceremony or reception be indoors or outdoors?
The ceremony will take place outdoors in the morning, with stunning mountain views (and hopefully, beautiful weather!). Our South Indian lunch will be indoors, immediately following the ceremony, Dinner and reception will also be indoors, with plenty of space for food, dancing, and celebrating.
Is there a break between events?
Yes — after the ceremony and South Indian lunch, there will be a few hours before dinner and the reception begin. Feel free to relax, freshen up, or explore the area. If you’re staying nearby, it’s a great time to head back to your hotel to rest or change before the evening celebration.
What's the weather like this time of year?
Labor Day weekend in Colorado is usually beautiful — sunny, warm days and cool, crisp evenings. In Longmont, daytime highs in early September are typically in the mid-70s to low 80s°F (24–28°C), with evening temps dipping into the 50s°F (10–13°C). We recommend bringing: (1) lightweight layers for cooler mornings and evenings, (2) sunglasses and sunscreen — the Colorado sun is strong, even in September, (3) comfortable shoes for walking or dancing (Also, it’s Colorado — so best to check the forecast before you pack. Afternoon showers are rare this time of year, but always possible!)
Are children allowed?
We’re leaving this up to each family! We completely understand if kids will be joining — especially if you’re traveling from out of town and making it a family trip. Just a heads up: our venue requires children to be under adult supervision at all times.
Are you registered anywhere?
We’re not creating a traditional registry. Instead, if you feel inclined, we’d love for you to consider making a donation to a cause close to your heart — we’ll share some suggested charities soon.
The wedding is on a Monday!
Yes! This date and specific time of the ceremony is astrologically auspicious for us according to Hindu tradition — and it also happens to be Labor Day, which means a built-in long weekend! We’re hoping you’ll use the days leading up to the wedding to relax, explore Colorado, and then end the weekend by celebrating with us on Sunday and Monday.
Do I need to choose my meal when I RSVP?
Nope! There’s no need to pre-select your food. Lunch will be a traditional South Indian vegetarian meal, served after the ceremony. Dinner will be buffet-style, with both Indian and Western options. There’ll be something for everyone, so no need to worry if you forget what you RSVPed for (or didn’t see a food option at all!).
What about food allergies or dietary restrictions?
You’re in good hands — the groom is gluten-free, so this wedding will be very allergy-aware! Lunch: A traditional South Indian vegetarian meal, gluten-free with substitutes for any gluten-containing dishes. Dinner: Multiple options, including Indian vegetarian and entirely gluten-free choices. Please let us know if there are any other dietary restrictions we should be aware of in your RSVP.
