Our first date was skydiving, and each year since has brought another new adventure. Vermont has always been our constant, and it’s where we’ll begin our greatest adventure yet—marriage—surrounded by the people we love most. This timeline captures some highlights from our journey.

Step 1: Getting There

Since Woodstock doesn’t have a nearby airport, getting there is an adventure in itself. Think of it as your chance to “choose your own adventure.” To make it easier, we’ve gathered nearby travel and lodging options and noted both the price range and the distance from the wedding ceremony. Wedding Day Q&A

Is there free parking at the church?Yes! There is plenty of free parking around the church in Woodstock. How do we get to the reception?A shuttle service will bring guests from the church to our family lake house in Barnard for the reception. The ride takes about 15 minutes. Will shuttles run back to Woodstock after the reception?Yes! Shuttles will begin returning to Woodstock starting at 3:00 PM and will make return trips throughout the afternoon. The final shuttle will depart the lake house at 6:00 PM. Are kids welcome?Yes! Kids are welcome at both the ceremony and the reception. What is the dress code?Think summer casual and comfortable: sundresses, button-downs, and light fabrics will work well. Since the reception is outdoors by the lake, we recommend shoes that are easy to walk in on grass. What will the weather be like?August in Vermont is usually warm and sunny, with low humidity and highs in the 70s to 80s.

Things to Do

On this page, we’ve shared our favorite Vermont summer activities. At the top of the list we have dancing to live music at outdoor venues, picking fresh blueberries, and hiking sections of the Appalachian Trail. We’ve also highlighted some of our go-to spots to grab a bite or a drink, along with our favorite places to shop, from small boutiques and antique malls to local artisan shops.

The Feast &amp; Field at Fable Farm is a live music event featuring farm-to-table food. Ashley and Tyler will be attending this event on Thursday, July 30 from 5:30–8:30 PM and would love for you to join if you arrive into town early!

Music on the Hill is Artistree’s summer concert series, with local artists performing on a hillside stage on Wednesday evenings at 6:30 PM.

Ashley’s favorite store in Woodstock, the Yankee Bookshop, is Vermont’s longest-running independent bookstore and is a must-visit for any book lover.

Known for its cozy, high-quality flannels, this shop is perfect for picking up a classic Vermont staple. If you’re staying at the Woodstock Inn, you’ll even spot their flannel as the curtains in the game room. Tyler owns three Vermont flannels (which Ashley often borrows).

Our wedding will begin in the church and continue outdoors by the lake, so we recommend wearing something comfortable for both settings. August in central Vermont is typically sunny with low humidity and an average high of 75°. Think light, breathable fabrics and styles like flowy dresses of any length, tailored sets, or button-downs with slacks. The reception will be held on a grassy lawn with some uneven areas, so guests wearing heels may want to bring a change of shoes, or go barefoot at the lake. If you plan to go out on the water, feel free to bring a swimsuit or a change of clothing, as dressing rooms will be available. Here are a few examples of styles we love:
