Our Wedding

Matthew and Ashley met at a Crab and Wine festival in the early spring in Astoria, OR. They shared the night among company and friends, drinking wine and having a good time. There was a moment though, among the loudness of the crowd and chaos of the business, where these two souls had a moment, a spark, a fire in them that would change the course of there lives forever. Ashley returned to Idaho to complete her training with the Idaho State Police, as Matthew went on the AMT A-school. Life went on, and distance created silence.. until sometime around the early winter when the two sparked conversation.. though the spark between them from that spring never went out. Between pictures of dogs, adventures, day to day things -- the first phone conversation (which was 4 hours), would lead into much more. Matthew invited Ashley to spend a weekend in Astoria, OR, with him, and though he already had her soul, he won her heart with the beautiful flowers she surprised her with when she arrived. One week later, she packed up everything she owned, left ISP, re-enlisted back into the USCG, and moved out to be with Matthew. Never once was there any doubt or hesitation. From there, they have traveled to 15 states and 1 country, adopted 1 puppy, and a military working dog. They have experienced what it means to be tested by the world and came out not only stronger but more as one. Ashley knows to have ice cream in the fridge and to always have a snack on standby, as Matthew has learned that a quick trip to the store is not always quick, for Ashley will become friends with anyone. In October 2024.. Matthew asked Ashley to spend the rest of their lives together, to which she said yes! I have found the one whom my soul loves.Songs of Solomon 3:4

Bailee and Ashley met when interviewing for ISP and ended up becoming academy roommates. Since then, they have grown to not only be best friends, but sisters in Christ.  They have spent hours giggling at the memories of the academy, having pretzels and white claw from 10 barrel, and simply loving life together as best friends.  Bailee is salt of the earth and has such a big heart, always being there for Ashley, and making Idaho feel even more of a second home. She is also a damn good state trooper!

Josie and Ashley were best friends in high school and though one lives in South Dakota, and the other in Oregon, that never stopped them from staying in each other's lives. Their friendship started at church.. but really took of when there parents set up a 'playdate' where they went and rode horses together (Blaze and Spirit). They have experienced so much in life, even getting matching tattoos! Josie has taught Ashley so much in life and has truly been a big sister to Ashley. Josie is a kind soul, a wonderful mother, and any soul she meets is always met with love.

Justine is Ashley's mom and has led her to where she is now, through all the distance of the military, the Friday night lights of high school band, and every soccer game. She has taught Ashley what it means to be passionate about something, as well as what it means to be a Godly woman. She is a leader in Ashley's life and not only her mother, but one of her best friends. She is also the better percussionist out of the two.  Justine is structured but loves life with an eager soul for adventure. She has passed along her love for roadtrips and traveling to Ashley,  and any national park she visits, she will make sure to get her stamp!

GMA is Ashley's soulmate/spirit animal.. literally. She is a wandering soul who floats through life, admiring the mountains and always ready for popcorn and wine.  GMA has not only gave Ashley a home when she moved to the PNW, but also became a mentor and teacher for Ashley. They have spent many nights watching reality TV, drinking Kung Fu girl, and talking about life GMA is full of life, love, energy, and will speak the truth always.

When I walked out of my room after the first phone call with Matthew, GMA looked at my smile and said, "You're going to marry him, I know it." 

And boy she was right!
