The Story of Johnny and Ashley: Written by Johnny Beasley

Ashley and I first met at the University of Mississippi where we were both cheerleaders. During Ashley's first year cheering at Ole Miss, I was her stunt partner. Being stunt partners is where it all began; it allowed us to become very close friends. That year during a cheer competition I suffered a traumatic injury. Ashley immediately showed she cared about my safety. Ashley knew I liked her for probably almost a year. I asked her to be my girlfriend at least hundred times, no lie, but she always came up with some type of excuse. Being on the same team together we would always hang out and do different activities together, but it seems like the second I would asked her on a date she was instantly busy. Ashley finally gave in on my last effort and said yes. Ashley and I started dating at the beginning of her sophomore year of college. Chili's was our first date. I will never forget our first kiss. We were sitting on the couch in her living room at her college apartment and I kissed her. She smiled from ear to ear after we kissed and I have been filled with happiness ever since. We dated for about two and a half years before I proposed in late January 2014. The night I proposed was a complete surprise for Ashley. I told Ashley we were going on a triple date with two other couples we were friends with in down town Memphis. Everyone there knew I was going to propose that night except for Ashley. Ashley just thought we had dinner reservations at a nice restaurant downtown. I never even made reservations for us to go to dinner. As we were walking to the restaurant we passed the Orpheum Theatre. The Orpheum Theatre has a billboard full of lights that shows pictures and different events. I rented the billboard for 6:30 p.m. We arrived in front of the Orpheum Theatre at 6:29. Soon as 6:30 rolled around, the billboard lit up and said "Ashley Anzalone will you marry me? Love, Johnny". I dropped to a knee and started to propose while Ashley did not see the billboard. Ashley thought I was joking and told me to get up! While I was still on a knee, I told her to read the billboard she had not yet read. She turned and saw the billboard. I asked her to marry me and told her she was my best friend. She immediately said, YES! We then went to dinner like we had planned and then back to Oxford to celebrate with her sister and our friends. That was by far the most amazing night I have ever had.
