Our Wedding

Sawyer and I’s story begins on just your typical 2010 school day in Latin 1 with Mrs. Petras. On this particular day, a few boys sitting behind Sawyer were being exceptionally rowdy, and after multiple attempts at quieting them, Mrs. Petras decided to move my seat to the back of the classroom (across from Sawyer) to separate the boys. It took a few days before Sawyer and I actually talked to one another, but I finally decided to make my move. With three classes together that semester, Sawyer and I grew to become really close friends, and over the last years of high school, we were pretty inseparable. Even when we weren’t together, we were constantly texting one another, so much so, that my family would get irritated and make me put my phone away. Sawyer and I attended both junior and senior prom and senior homecoming together, and after graduation, even worked together at Burger King for several years.After high school, our lives became so busy with work, college, and nursing school, but Sawyer and I always made time with each other a priority. Even if it was just going for a quick car ride on our 30 minute lunch break or watching movies in his mom’s basement, we were always happy to be spending time together. Once I moved to Harrisonburg and started attending JMU, Sawyer and I were able to take a class together, and spent many evenings eating dinner, hitting the gym, or just hanging out struggling through my chemistry homework together.A few years after graduating college and working our “adult jobs”, Sawyer and I decided to take the plunge and buy our first home together (during a global pandemic), which was a little intimidating considering we had never lived with one another before. A month later, we became parents to the sassiest little black lab puppy Callie Mae, and became a family of three (and later a family of four with the addition of our Sadie).Fast forward to July 2021, after living with one another for a little over a year, Sawyer decided to take Callie and I for a ride to Highland County. Not unusual right? This is something we did all the time. So often it would be impossible for me to try and even guess how many hours Sawyer and I have spent just riding in the car blasting our favorite songs on back country roads or watching the sunset from Skyline Drive. So it was only appropriate that Sawyer used this as his opportunity to ask me the long awaited question: would I marry him. This was the easiest yes I’ve ever said in my entire life.We are so excited to finally be getting married and to continue our relationship of over a decade in the making!

Engagement Photos

Krista is the closest thing to a sister I’ve ever had. We’ve shared so many memories from sleepovers in elementary school, working our first jobs together, sharing an apartment in college, and so many things between. I honestly can’t imagine my life without her, and my day would not have been complete without her by my side!


Conversation topics with Krista include the origins of bread, all things pitties, Taylor Swift, or her sweet baby Samuel.


Krista Phares

Matt and I first met after he started dating Ashley’s best friend, Krista. So we were kind of forced into friendship. However, after only a few times of hanging out, I soon realized how much Matt and I had in common and began to really like Matt too. Eight years later, he is now one of my best friends and has been like a brother so it’s only fitting he is my Best Man.


Conversation topics with Matt include physics, any and all things craft beer, and ask him about that time he bought a kilt.

Matthew Phares

Lauren has been my best friend for life. Our friendship began in the year 2000 at only 5 years old! Even being miles away from each other for several years, Lauren and I have still remained so close. She is one of the smartest people I know, and I am so proud of her for following her dreams of becoming a pharmacist!

Conversation topics with Lauren include major league baseball, UNC, and her fur-baby Demi.

Lauren Lam

Josh and I have known each other for most of our lives. As children, we spent a lot of time together playing videogames, and later as adults, we even worked together. Josh and I share so many of the same interests from movies and television shows to videogames. Having known Josh for over 20 years, it was a given that I would ask him to be a part of my big day.

Bre and I first met at JMU’s School of Nursing where we shared 98% of our classes. Early morning study sessions, evening clinicals, and housing fairs led to our accelerated friendship. I love Bre’s determination and her willingness to always hit up breweries for steal-the-glass nights!

Conversation topics with Bre include softball, nursing, and the J-M-U Duuuukkkkkeeeeeessssss!

Bre Bosley

Throughout middle and high school, Matt and I shared a countless number of classes together, including Latin class where Ashley and I met. Although we all attended JMU but had no classes together, we tried to stay in touch with dinners and bowling. I have always appreciated Matt and I’s shared interest in football and other sports. Since Matt has been apart of Ashley and I’s relationship from its beginning, I could not imagine our wedding day without him there.

Matthew Rohlf

Nicole and I met when I started at working in labor and delivery. She is the sweetest person I have ever met and really helped me to learn and grow so much as a nurse. She is such a kind-hearted individual, and anyone who knows her, knows just how lucky they are to have her in their life. In addition to being the best mommy ever, this momma also likes to party and have a good time, and she is so much fun to be around.

Katie and I worked together for several years in Labor and Delivery. And believe me, there was never a dull moment when we worked together, especially our nights in the nursery jamming to music and snuggling babies. I really admire how Katie puts her family and friends above all else. She is the life of any party she attends, so it's pretty clear as to why I've asked her to be in mine! Katie is currently tackling her biggest adventure in life yet: becoming a mommy! Although she won't be standing by my side on the wedding day, she still plans to attend if able!
