What's the "To Do" in New Orleans?

There's so much to do and see in New Orleans that you may just have to come back to see it all. We (especially Ashley) have been to New Orleans countless times, and every time was a new experience. But no matter where you go in the city, or how many drinks you've taken, be aware of your surroundings. Do not put your wallet in your back pocket. Do not answer anyone who asks about your shoes. And those shots being offered on Bourbon Street are not free, or are very good.

Bar Hopping

Pat O’Brien’s is a quintessential part of the New Orleans experience. It is one of the most populars stops one that involves a little bit of history, a lot of rum, and a very high probability of getting lost trying to find the bathroom. It’s touristy, it’s loud, and it’s exactly where you want to be. Be careful: A hurricane is deceptively strong.

Pat O'Brien's

If Pat O’Brien’s is the loud, flashy older sibling who never wants the party to end, Lafitte’s Blacksmith Shop is the moody, mysterious younger brother who knows where the bodies are buried. Legend has it the privateer Jean Lafitte used this spot as a front for his smuggling operations. People swear they still see his ghost staring out from the shadows near the fireplace. If you see a guy in 18th-century sailor gear. We've never seen it, but have had a man on the street sketch us.

Lafitte's Blacksmith Shop Bar

This place gets packed, but it's worth waiting for a bar spot on the carousel! Refreshing cocktails on a rotating bar that won't make you dizzy. A special tradition of Ellis and Ashley's is to pick up a 6 pack of macarons at Sucré from across the street to share as we enjoy or cocktails slowly spinning around the carousel.

LEGENDARY frozen irish coffee! Ashley's Maid of Honor Cammy introduced her to this place many years ago, and we make an effort to go back every time we're in New Orleans. Ellis and Ashley even went to Molly's for a frozen irish coffee just hours before he proposed! Be sure to go to the Molly's on Decatur Street. There's another Molly's somewhere in the French Quarter, but it's not the same place!

If you like karaoke, this is the purrfect place to be! Even if you're not a karaoke person, the drinks here are good and the vibes are positive. There are 2 great memories here:1) Halloween 2022 when Ashley found Ellis dancing on stage in his chef costume to All Star by Smash Mouth. 2) Abby Boudreaux's (Ashley's sister in-law) bachelorette party where we all got matching souvenir cups and t-shirts.

Our Favorite Places to Eat

Caribbean &amp; Latin American bites including tacos served with tropical cocktails in a funky setting. And it's got the best chips and queso you'll have in town! There's also a fish bowl drink that Ellis and Ashley shared the first time she ever brought Ellis to this spot. We lost the souvenir cup somewhere along the way, but the memories remain.

The Rum House

Ashley and Ellis went to the Baton Rouge location of The Vintage for our 5th date for brunch, and we went back several times since. If you're looking to get some fancy beignets, this is the spot to go!
