It all started on a little app called Hinge!
On October 30, 2021 at 4:00 in the afternoon, Travis was “resting” while on a work trip up in Pennsylvania. He stumbled upon Ashley’s profile and “liked” one of her photos.
On October 31, 2021 at 11:00 in the morning, Ashley saw Travis’ “like”, looked over his profile, and watched one of his iconic videos, that is still one of Ashley’s favorites today. She responded “Orangerine! Hahha. That’s great!!” (if you aren’t familiar with said video, it’s worth asking to see).
Travis promptly responded, and the two communicated back and forth for days in the app until they eventually exchanged phone numbers.
Due to busy schedules, they couldn’t plan their first date until Tuesday, November 9, 2021. Travis arrived to pick up Ashley from her place. As Ashley opened the door, Travis was standing there with envelopes in his hand, that he had grabbed from her mailbox, and blurted, “you’ve got mail!”. Ashley was speechless and just nervously laughed.
Then, they were off to Park Road Shopping Center for a drink at Osteria LuCa, followed by “dinner” at CO (where neither ate very much. NERVES!). They ended the evening at their favorite craft cocktail spot, Idlewild, and the rest is history!

'Twas a brisk dimly lit evening on the 31st of December, 2022. Distant travelers from the land called Charlotte, Sir Motley and Lady Campbell were accompanied by Sir & Lady Wise, as well as Sir & Lady Robinson. These fine folks and dearest of friends acquired a quaint “B&B” for the evening, in the vast hills of the land called Matthews. Their aim: to celebrate a new year, together. But what Lady Campbell did not know, was the great and mighty plan that Sir Motley had in store.
With love in the air (and everyone devouring chicken wings & tequila), a light snow fall made it’s way onto their front stoop, and Sir Motley began the great master plan of the evening. He met briefly with Sir Wise & Robinson in Sir Wise's resting quarters, then swiftly shared that the prized jewel was hidden. Hidden not by fear, hidden not by might, but hidden for a purpose. Sir Motley had hidden this prize jewel in Lady Wise’s slipper. He insisted that the Sirs indulge in a sporting game that this village called "Twister." The time for this celebratory event, would be marked with grave intention AKA HALFTIME DURING THE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME BETWEEN OSU & GEORGIA. #FootBallSportGame #SportBall
Hence, during this halftime, the comrades would rally to begin their brief game of Twister. The game's referee was none other than Lady Campbell. As she spun the Twister dial, paying little attention to the Sirs playing Twister, Sir Wise lost. He then swiftly traveled to his resting quarters to retrieve the hidden jewel from his Lady’s slipper and very sneakishly place it in the possession of Sir Motley. It was acquired, and the plan continued.
Henceforth... Sir Motley nudged Sir Robinson’s arm, relaying the signal to then forfeit his time in the game. The clock struck 10:08pm, and only Sir Motley was left amidst the vastly colored mat. Lady Campbell spun the dial. It spun and spun, for what seemed like ages. It stopped… on the infamous blue. Sir Motley fought and fought to reach his right hand such a grave distance to blue. As he reached, struggle ensued. His knee bared it’s way down, striking the floor with such immense force. It has been said far and wide, that those in other villages can still hear the thundering strike of Sir Motley’s knee hitting the Luxury Vinyl Planking floor. Yet, he did not feel defeat. He felt victory.. and then.. it began. The snowfall calmed, voices silenced (and the TV muted as well)… Sir Motley, on one knee, reached deep into his black cloak to retrieve the prized jewel, to then present to Lady Campbell.
'Twas this very moment that this journey had all been planned for: to inquire for Lady Campbell’s hand in marriage. With palms sweaty, knees weak, arms heavy (and mom’s spaghetti).. he paused for only a time, took his breath, gathered his scattered & anxious thoughts… looked to Lady Campbell, and said “Ashley Marie Campbell, will you marry me?”
Lady Campbell was sincerely shocked, immensely surprised, and taken aback. She then leapt with all of her might across the common quarters into Sir Motley’s arms... screaming “YES YES, I Will Marry YOU!”
The once quaint and relaxing “B&B” erupted with such excitement and joy. Celebration commenced... The night was a true and love-filled success.
(Then they called a trove of family and friends, kept eating chicken wings, and unfortunately witnessed the Georgia Bulldogs beat the Ohio State Buckeyes. BUT HEY, the plan worked!)
The story of Sir Motley & Lady Campbell is to-be-continued, but this concludes their engagement story.
