In 1975, the walk was designated as a National Recreation Trail...the 65th in the nation and first in New England. The walk runs 3.5 miles and about two-thirds of the walk is in easy walking condition. There are amazing views of the ocean, cliffs and the mansions. This is an out and back trail/walk so be prepared with water and determine when you want to turn around!

There are Five unique segments to Cliff Walk:

1. Memorial Blvd. to Forty Steps

2. Forty Steps to Ruggles Ave.

3. Ruggles Ave. to Belmont Beach

4. Belmont Beach to Ledge Rd.

5. Ledge Road to Bellevue Ave.

Touring the Mansions is a unique way to experience our American history. Guests can purchase tickets to tour the inside of many of the mansions along the Cliff Walk and get a chance to see how the wealthy lived in the 19th Century. Many of these colossal "summer cottages" you'll recognize as they have been many Hollywood films!

Bristol is a quiet seaside town that is 25 minutes from Newport. Bristol offers quaint shops, ice cream and coffee shops, and beautiful areas to walk the main street and surrounding waterfront. Check out the website with attractions or head a short ride south to Newport to explore!
