Every love story has two sides, and ours is no different—except that one of us seems to remember it a little differently than the other!

Her Side:

When Carlos first started teaching chorus at our middle school, I didn’t think much of it. Sure, he was friendly, talented, and instantly became best buds with my co-workers (shoutout to Coach Deaton and Scott), but he was just "the new teacher." A whole year went by before I started to notice him hanging around more often. My students kept insisting we would be so cute together, and Deaton and Scott were dropping hints left and right.

Then came basketball season. I had always done the scorebooks, and Carlos—who had never volunteered before—suddenly decided he wanted to run the game clock. Convenient, right? We ended up at the same table, side by side for every game. (Enjoy some photo evidence 😉) And just like that… the rest was history.

His Side:

Ashley has been an amazing teacher at our school, and the kids absolutely adore her. When I first started teaching, I quickly heard about the famous Ms. Gibson and how she was everybody’s favorite teacher. I would always respond with, “Second favorite, right?” and they would say, “No, my favorite.”

At first, she was just a coworker I would see sporadically in the hallways or interacting with students, but I didn’t know her. As time passed, I started seeing her more and interacting with her more, but still there was nothing romantic. During my second year, for some reason, the students really pushed for me to date Ms. Gibson.

At some point in the middle of the year, all the kids started creating handshakes with me. One student in particular said, “Mr. Tejada, we need to have a handshake.” I said, “Great!” We learned it, perfected it, and everything was great. A few weeks later, I was walking down the hallway and saw the same student doing our handshake with Ms. Gibson. I called her out on it, and she immediately said, “No, you’re ruining the surprise. You were supposed to do the handshake together and fall in love!"

And now, here we are, planning our wedding!! 🩵

Cada historia de amor tiene dos lados, y la nuestra no es diferente ¡excepto que uno de nosotros parece recordarla algo diferente al otro!

Mi Versión:

Cuando Carlos comenzó a enseñar coro en nuestra escuela media, no pensé mucho al respecto. Claro, era amable, talentoso y rápidamente se hizo muy amigo de mis compañeros de trabajo (un saludo a Coach Deaton y Scott), pero para mi, era solo "el nuevo profesor". Pasó todo un año antes de que empezara a notarlo más seguido. Mis estudiantes insistían en que seríamos lindos juntos, y Deaton y Scott no dejaban de darme pistas.

Luego llegó la temporada de baloncesto. Siempre había sido yo quien llevaba la puntuación. Carlos, que nunca se había ofrecido antes, de repente decidió que quería llevar el reloj del partido. ¡Qué conveniente, verdad? Terminamos en la misma mesa, uno al lado del otro, en cada partido. (Disfruten de algunas muestras fotográficas 😉) Y así, de repente... el resto es historia.

Con el tiempo, empecé a verla más y a interactuar más con ella, pero aún no había nada romántico. En algún momento a medio año, todos los niños comenzaron a crear apretones de manos conmigo. Una estudiante en particular me dijo: “Sr. Tejada, tenemos que tener un apretón de manos.” Le respondí: “¡Super!” Lo aprendimos ylo perfeccionamos, todo estaba bien. Unas semanas después, caminando por el pasillo vi a la misma estudiante haciendo nuestro apretón de manos con la Srta. Gibson. La enfrenté al respecto, y ella inmediatamente dijo: “¡No, estás arruinando la sorpresa! Se suponía que debían hacer el apretón de manos ustedes y enamorarse."

Y ahora, aquí estamos, planeando nuestra boda. 🩵
