Where to begin... well embarrassingly enough this story all started with a lot of prayers and two people swiping right... So a few weeks before Trey and I had matched/met. I was at a friend's wedding. On the drive up, I was actually considering deleting my dating apps. For me, meeting people on dating apps was weird and hadn't really been working for me. I honestly was quite content with being single, but open to dating if the right man came along. At the wedding, when I was catching up with the bride and how her and the new hubby met, which was actually to my surprise a dating app. When another guest walked up and asked her if she had any advice for us single ladies. My friend said, "Just say yes to one more date, and don't give up." On the drive home I thought about what she had said and decided.. I'll delete everyone and give it one more chance.... Well, at about that same time, Trey was wanting to dip his toe back into the dating pool again. So he got talked into setting up a dating app by some coworkers. Trey is not social media savvy so this was a big deal and a huge step out of his comfort zone. Here is Ashley's side of the "match story". One night I come across this guy I hadn't seen before. I see he is around my age, close in distance, great career, and no kids. I think to myself.. what's the catch? Then I looked at his pictures and see this poor guy couldn't take a selfie to save his life. Honestly, the shallow side of me almost swiped left (no) because his pictures were so bad, but his eyes caught my attention. Something honestly tugged at my heart and told me to just give him a chance. So I swiped right.....and.. BOOM...it was a match. Something told me to message this guy first and I just had to know.. seriously what was the catch. Well, he messaged me back and his "catch" wasn't that big of a catch. Something told me, don't leave this one hanging with out a reply, like I typically would do, so I gave him my number explaining how bad I could be at checking the app. Well, the wait wasn't long because a short while later I had a text saying.. Hey, its Trey. Here is Trey's side of the "match" story.... so after just downloading the dating app and trying to figure it out. I was looking at the people on there and came across her profile. Something about her photo with Cooper just pulled at my heart. So I gave it a super like. I remember saying a prayer that if there was something behind that feeling or that if it was meant to be to give me sign. Literally right after that prayer she messaged me saying," Good job, My age, close by, what's the catch?" I just remember looking up like oh lord that was a quick sign. So we started messaging on the app and then she gave me her number saying she wasn't the best at checking the app. So we texted for a few days maybe even a week before I finally got the nerve to call her. Well I remember before I called I said something to her about would she answer if I called. Her reply was you might as well try and see so I did... and guess what.... no answer. Okay, ya'll so in my defense. (This is Ashley) We were on opposite work schedules and the two times Trey tried to call me. I was in traffic or busy like I knew I didn't have more than a few minutes to chat. If the first conversation is really good, well you don't want to give a bad impression rushing off the phone, right? Don't worry though! I did finally call him back.... He actually had disappeared on me on Friday night while texting. I honestly didn't think to much of it, but that Saturday morning he did. He texted me apologizing for disappearing and then explained he was at his buddy's house and got carried away catching up. His text may not seem like a big deal to most, but it was so intentional and thoughtful I decided.. today is the day I'm gonna call him back. But... my timing was terrible. Trey again... so she finally did call me back. We will just keep this short and the conversation was.. Hey, this is Ashley. Then.....hold on because she was playing with one of her friends kids. Then after about 5 minutes she just said ill call you back and..... no call back. Of course, I'm like that was a "great" first conversation. There was a good reason behind it and we will just keep that to us and those who know that detail already...haha. So the next day was Sunday, I was at work and she was FINALLY able to talk. We were having a really slow day at work so I was able to answer. We ended up talking on the phone for 4.5 hours. Don't tell my boss! We literally talked about everything. Well after that, we would talk every chance we got. Then Wednesday, I sent her a snap and told her I was leaving work early. So it was the night before Thanksgiving, and I went out to grab a drink with a friend. We were having a little girls night. Then I actually get my first snap from Trey, and its a selfie! I started grinning from ear to ear. My friend was like what... I had just told her about how great our phone calls had been going, but I was worried if he was gonna be cuter than his dating picture. Well, boy howdy was he! I flipped my phone to my friend to show her, and said he is defiantly my type. Then the text came telling me he was getting off early. Well, I broke girl code and did something I would have NEVER done. I invited him to come meet us out for a drink. He told me he was in his work uniform and I gave him an out. I told him his uniform wouldn't be a problem, but if being out in it was we could just schedule something some other time. It would be no biggie. Well, he didn't take the out he told me to send him the address and he would be there in thirty minutes. So off to Dothan I went! Before making the trip, I stopped by the store to get something to calm the nerves a little. This is completely out of my comfort zone. It wasn't very often that I let my little hometown of New Brockton, AL let alone go somewhere I had never been before by myself. When I got close to where she was at and called her to tell her I was there. She told me that she would meet me out front. I started walking up, nervous of course, and then there she was.... Beautiful as ever! We walked inside and thankfully she actually started talking right away. So we didn't have any awkward moment of silence or that being shy when you first meet. She made it really easy to just feel relaxed. She noticed I forgot to roll up my flannel sleeves I threw on to cover my work shirt, and she just starts to roll up my sleeves. That's when I realize my flannel is inside out. I say dang gum it!!! Embarrassed at that moment, but she just laughed it off and thought it was cute. I remember watching him walk up to meet me while he slid his flannel on. I absolutely loved it. Then I got so stinking nervous! I was so thankful for all those phone calls because I knew I could talk to him without sounding like an idiot. Then I noticed that his sleeves needed to be rolled, and to my surprise I started to fix them like it a normal thing. That's when he noticed his flannel was inside out and said in the most southern accent "Dang Gum It!". At that moment, I relaxed because I could tell he was just as nervous as me and it was just so stinking cute. Honestly, the rest of the night was just us talking the whole time. At the end of the night, he offered and drove us to our car. We talked a bit more and then he left to make his way back to New Brockton. We both had the biggest smiles on our faces all night. If you know Trey, that's pretty common. Now if you know me, I rock the "RBF" pretty much on the regular. That night though Trey broke through it. I couldn't remember the last time I genuinely smiled and laughed that much. Trey maybe made it 5 minutes after leaving before telling me what a great time he had. Then before we knew it we had our first date lined up for the next day. Then honestly the rest is history. We both knew with that sleeve roll and "dang gum it" that it was something different.

This is one of our favorite restaurants! At night, they usually have live music and great atmosphere.

Runaway Island

We do not recommend doing this the day of the wedding. However, this would be a great activity for the day after. You can rent a kayak, canoe, or paddle board and check out a local swimming spring.
