Our Story

Zach and Ashley first met during their junior year in college at UW-Madison. These two averagely athletic people found themselves earning beer money at the campus RecSports Department. Zach and Ashley's overlapping office hours resulted in their very first argument: is Subway good or bad? In classic Ashley fashion she had to win the argument. There's even evidence of Ashley posting a Buzzfeed article on Zach's timeline to prove that the Subway Smell was real. Zach caved and thanked her for saving him from his "smelly ways". And so their relationship began...

For the next few years Zach and Ashley's relationship evolved into more than just work friends. It started with attending Badger games together and "pre-gaming" each gameday. Next it was coordinated Halloween costumes and frequent 2:30am frozen pizza runs to Capitol Center Market. The more time they spent together, the more things they noticed that they enjoyed about one another. Ashley appreciated Zach's "chill" don't stress about it demeanor and Zach liked Ashley's razor-sharp wit and down-to-earth attitude. The moments they spent together became more enjoyable than those they spent apart.

Next came graduations and learning how to be an adult. Ashley began her career as a middle school teacher and Zach became the best listener. He quickly learned that dating a teacher was synonymous narcolepsy. After Zach's fifth year at Madison (and almost completing his Medieval Studies degree), he decided to head off to Law School in Minnesota. Now it was Ashley's turn to learn something new. She became privy to law jargon and figured out ways to stay awake during the 5 hour drive from Oconomowoc to Minneapolis. Looking back on it, Zach and Ashley both agree that having a long distance relationship wasn't always fun, but that distance made them realize how much they wanted to marry each other.

Since Zach moved back to Wisconsin, they have accomplished a lot together. They bought a house in 2020, survived a pandemic, and have been caring for a small army of loveable foster dogs. They have enjoyed gelato in Italy, watched the Eiffel tower sparkle at night, hiked the desert trails of Saguaro National Park, and cheered on their favorite teams. Zach and Ashley are so grateful for the experiences they've shared and the life they've built together over the last 8 years. They cannot wait to celebrate their marriage with all their family and friends!
